Blogger and career coach Pamela Slim's blog, Escape from Cubicle Nation, covers a wide range of topics, from when to ditch your home office to the virtues of a documentary on bi-polar disorder and professional advice about finding one's purpose, combined with Kahlil Gibran quotes.

Usually, topics like that come off dry, but Slim, a married mother of three who's taught martial arts for ten years and speaks four languages, makes everything more entertaining and insightful. Instead of feeling like they're reading a professional lecture, blog visitors feel like they're getting good advice from a wise old friend.

She says things we can relate to, or at least think about, like "You want to do something, but don't know what it is. Most people don't understand it. You don't understand it. You just want to go back to the way things were in the 'good times'...but all you can manage to do is watch reruns of Law & Order."

Slim's blog is more community discourse than personal diatribe. For example, she blogged a two-week series of posts that featured the "collective wisdom" of her readers on expanding business markets, and she shares e-mails from readers, like a guy in Indianapolis who was inspired by her book, Escape from Cubicle Nation: From Corporate Prisoner to Thriving Entrepreneur. And she responds with things like, "Thanks for writing. We know how you feel -- right, guys?"

But Escape from Cubicle Nation isn't all business blogs, either -- Slim also takes time to post photos of things like her favorite car repair shop (Pat's Garage in San Francisco).

She's big on social media, too, and she encourages communication through her blog, e-mail, and Twitter account, where she has more than 14,000 followers. Obviously, we're not the only ones made happy by Escape from Cubicle Nation.
