85: Dayvid LeMmon

Formally trained in traditional black and white photography, Dayvid LeMmon is entirely self-taught in digital techniques. Growing up during photography's transition from film to digital, he says, has provided him both a strong background and unique insight into his medium's technical and artistic possibilities.

He encodes references to technology, electronic communication, mass media, spirituality, religion, architecture, and science, but insists there is no direct interpretation of the scenes contained in his prints.

LeMmon, 27, lives and works in Phoenix and has exhibited his work in Los Angeles, Phoenix, Philadelphia, New York City, Miami, Cologne and Berlin.

What's your last big project? In July of last year, I was part of a 2 person show (with LA artist Davey Jones) at Strychnin Gallery in Berlin, Germany. It was my first large exhibition outside of the US, and it was a wonderful time with lots of amazing people (and good German beer!)

What's your next big project?
I was awarded the Arizona Arts Commission's 2010 Artist Project Grant to produce a new body of work which will premiere in November at Perihelion Arts Gallery .

How much do you hate being asked what your next big project is?
I don't mind talking about it at all, as long as I have a good one lined up! It keeps my feet to the fire on getting it done!

What's something you want Phoenix to know about you?
My other passion in life is music - I play synthesizer in Elektrobahn, my all-analog electro/ambient/experimental side project along with my good friend Scot McKenzie. Check us out here.
