88: Gabriel Utasi

Gabriel Utasi is a professional creative who works in publishing; creating graphics, designs, multimedia projects, and illustrations for newspapers and is known mostly for his portrait and figurative work. He transplanted from Cincinnati, Ohio via Fresno, California five years ago. In Cincinnati, he studied at The Art Academy of Cincinnati and has been recognized with industry awards for creativity every year since 2000. His self-proclaimed internet's funniest (almost) daily comic is a regular departure from your ordinary web cartoon and has been nearly almost daily since 2006. He'll have to get back to you about the funny.

What's your next big project?
I'm thinking of painting 100 portraits of people and in return, they each paint a portrait of me. I'm not sure why I'd need that many portraits of myself let alone one, but it could be fun. Perhaps I could combine this project into another, where I paint a portrait and the person who I paint suggests the most deserving person they know to get their portrait painted, wherever in the country that may take me. A painting can be done in one sitting or from a photo, but involving travel in the project would allow me to explore the states. Ideally, the person I'm painting a portrait of would be hospitable and allow me to stay at their house while working on their portion of the project.

How much do you hate being asked what your next big project is?

Oh, I'm furious right now. If you could only see my rage. Yarrrrr.

What's something you want Phoenix to know about you? (And, if you're game, what's something you really don't want Phoenix to know about you?)
I make the best homemade hashbrown, sausage, egg and cheese breakfast burrito ever. Also, I don't have an I-anything and I'm bow-legged.
