There's not typically much to look at on east Washington Street, as you head into downtown Phoenix, which is why we immediately noticed those domes on the southeast corner of 24th and Washington. Turns out, they are part of the Robert L. Duffy High School, a charter school set to open this fall.
We're told the dome style was chosen for its high energy efficient capabilities as well as its ability to withstand all kinds of storms. We found this on
Monolithic Domes online that explains why it is a superior building form.

The domes are painted to resemble Earth, Saturn (complete with rings) and Jupiter.
What, no Mars, we asked? No. Apparently Mars is too far away. That would make no sense.
OK.
