Guess Where I'm Eating and Win a Prize

Do any of you know how hard it is to find a seat in a coffee shop in Tempe during finals week? It's almost impossible. Earlier this week, I was in dire need of a quiet place to work (away from my dogs) and after hitting up six coffee shops in Tempe, I gave up and headed out to Gilbert. Which worked out great because I was able to finally have breakfast and a hot cup of Stumptown coffee from this extremely popular downtown Gilbert eatery. I chowed down on the American Standard with grilled meatballs and a fuffy biscuit. Do you know where I'm eating?

Eggs, bacon, French toast sticks, crispy potatoes, an OJ and a crazy apple drink is the only way to start the day when you find yourself on a Monday morning shopping mission for cheap furniture with clean lines and cheap bedding. It may not be gourmet but it wasn't half bad for $1.99. Do you know where I'm eating?

Steak sandwich from.....

Sometimes a girl needs a steak sandwich and a big bowl of fries to make the day amazing. My lunch companion and I hit one of Phoenix's slightly older hot spots for a late afternoon beer lunch. I ventured past my lunchtime salad realm and ordered the Bistro Steak Sandwich and a massive bowl of fries. White cheddar cheese, thin slices of medium rare steak, juicy thick cut tomatoes and a spicy jalapeno remoulade were all piled high on soft foccacia bread. And it paired perfectly with a pint of Lagunitas.Do you know where I'm eating?

Being a freelance writer has its perks. I can work in my pajamas if I like, I can do dishes on my "breaks," and I can go to breakfast whenever I feel like it.
The only problem is that most people are tucked away in their offices during the week, which forced me to get over my biggest fear -- eating breakfast alone in an actual restaurant.

Armed with a book, I headed to Scottsdale and found myself a nice window seat at this cute French bakery and eatery. I ordered up a beautiful plate of house baked brioche French toast topped with sweet maple syrup and an iced coffee. The coffee wasn't exactly great, but the French toast was amazing. I'll be going back soon -- alone! Do you know where I'm eating?

Sometimes a burger is just a burger, but this Old Town Scottsdale eatery puts on a show with their giant Kobe beef blend burger topped with cheddar & jack cheeses, caramelized jalapenos & onions, basil, peppered bacon, and red chili cheese sauce. And it's all on a pretzel bun. It's one amazing burger. Do you know where I'm eating?

Last weekend I was hit with a Pho craving so I decided to check out Tempe's newest Vietnamese Eatery. The pho was really good -- not mindblowing good, but really good. The service was awesome and the interior is nice. Do you know where I'm eating?

On a recent lunch date, one of my very good friends took me to this absolutely beautiful renovated building on Camelback -- all because he wanted to buy a loaf of bread. We ended up spliting a loaf of their fresh baked rustic bread while we waited for our entrees -- I'll admit it was worth the drive. Everything on the menu sounded good but I ended up chosing this giant bowl of meatballs with pearl pasta, a tangy sauce, and a hen's egg. It should be illegal to eat this well at lunch! It's not exactly pretty but I can't indulge in champagne brunches every weekend -- sometime a girl has to slum it up with a greasy plate of bacon, hash browns and eggs, a side of Grand Marnier-soaked French toast and a bottle of Coors Original.

A friend from out of town forced us to experience breakfast at this dive-y bar/music venue on the border of Tempe and Mesa. I was a bit scared at first but the liquor-soaked pieces of sugar coated bread weren't half bad -- although anything might have been good after three beers and an hour and a half long wait. Please excuse this picture of a sandwich with a bite out of it. After waiting for a table in the beautiful new dining room of this Central Phoenix eatery, I was so hungry I almost forgot to snap a picture before I pretty much inhaled the layers of fresh baked bread, soppressata, aged provolone, and tangy roasted red peppers. Do you know where I'm eating? Hint -- It's not from Cibo.

I absolutely adore this quaint Vietnamese restaurant off 7th Street because sometimes I want my bowl of Pho served with a classy cocktail and a smile. On my latest visit, I skipped the pho and went for the Ahi Tuna Salad. The melt-in-your-mouth seared tuna was accompanied by fresh avocado, carrots, jicama, and a tangy ginger miso dressing. A perfect lunch and totally worth the $11 price tag. Do you know where I'm eating?
