Casual but tasty at Texas BBQ House.
Los Angeles Angels: Tempe Diablo Stadium

The name says Tempe, but if you're catching an Angels game at Diablo Stadium (heh heh, we get it) and looking for a good meal, you're much closer to a few excellent drinking and dining options in South Phoenix. We did tuck one Tempe favorite in there for you. You're welcome.

Seeing a game at Scottsdale Stadium? Lucky you. Not only is it a beautiful little stadium (not the newest, not the biggest, but a sentimental favorite), you are without a doubt in the best ballpark 'hood when it comes to drinking and dining options. We could fill a long list of places where you can't go wrong -- here are just a few to get you started.

Oakland A's: Phoenix Municipal Stadium

This little stadium is in a super location if you want to hike (Papago Buttes), take in the area's flora and fauna (Desert Botanical Garden) or feed a giraffe (Phoenix Zoo). But it's a no man's land when it comes to food. There aren't even any crummy chains in the vicinity. No worries, though. You are in the middle of town and we've got good food and drink for you in all directions.

Where to Eat and Drink Near Maryvale Baseball Park

Milwaukee Brewers: Maryvale Baseball Park

While the atmosphere at this stadium is decidedly fan-friendly and flowing with Miller beer, the food offerings are strictly no-frills. And with mostly chain and fast food restaurants within sight of the ballpark, fans should plan a short drive to pre- and post-game pigouts in advance, and leave the racing around to the sausages.

Breakfast

Kiss the Cook
This Glendale neighborhood favorite is a down-home nod to the prototypical old-fashioned country kitchen and features standard a.m. fare at retro prices. Bite into bountiful plates of eggs Benedict (try the crab cake Benny), huge omelets, waffles and pancakes, and that old stick-to-your-ribs staple: homemade biscuits and gravy. Most entrees come with a cute basket of tasty mini-muffins and there's a kiss of the Hershey's kind served with the check.

Arizona Diamondbacks and Colorado Rockies: Salt River Fields
7555 N. Pima Road, Scottsdale, saltriverfields.com
The most important advice we can give you regarding finding food near Salt River Fields: avoid the Pavillions shopping center, unless McDonald's and 5 & Diner are your idea of fine dining. You will have to drive a bit to get to the good stuff, but it's there -- usually hidden at the back of a strip mall or inside a hotel. We're not listing dessert in this guide, so we'll just have to tell you up front to be sure to make a stop at Sweet Republic for a scoop of ice cream or a sundae; the name sounds familiar because you've seen it in the pages of national food mags and on the Food Network.

Hooters, Cheesecake Factory, Chipotle, and IHOP. There's no shortage of slick-looking and corporate-run fooderies encircling Peoria's Cactus League ballpark, part of the larger Arrowhead Entertainment District (the name of which illustrates the chain-oriented nature of this particular area of the Valley). A few miles past all the polished nosheries, however, are a variety of more low-key eating and drinking establishments of a more mom-and-pop nature.

Widely considered one of the crown jewels of the Cactus League, this high-end westside stadium features a glitzy decor scheme of steel and stone, reflecting pools stocked with fish, up-close interaction with big league sluggers, and even Dodger Dogs for fans of the Big Blue Wrecking Crew. As for a wealth of neighboring cafes, bars, and shops...eh, not so much.

The park is perched amid a patchwork of desert terrain and empty lots, which means you'll have to search out the surrounding neighborhoods for sustenance of the non-concession stand variety, including the following options.

Ohio is one of those Midwestern states known for its hearty, high-caloric, or carb-laden cuisine, whether it's the thick and spicy Cincinnati chili or Polish staples like pierogi and paprikash. So it's only apropos that the stadium where Ohio's two teams train in the springtime not only serves plenty of heart-stopping concession-stand fare (including fried bologna on a stick), it's also surrounded by eateries dishing out a variety of gut-busting grub.

For the masses of fans who flock to the winter home of the Cubs each year (frequently selling out the largest capacity of seats of any Cactus League stadium), this ain't Wrigleyville when it comes to eats around the stadium. Get into that car, Arizona-style, and head into downtown Mesa or to restaurants a few minutes away to score the best out-of-the-ballpark baseball fare.
