Bistro du Lac: French Restaurant and Bakery to Open Next Week in Scottsdale

Scottsdale will get a new destination for French cuisine next week when Bistro du Lac opens its doors to the public. Located at 8320 North Hayden Road, the restaurant and bakery takes over the space formerly occupied by Buster's on the Lake.

Francophiles probably will be happy to hear that Bistro du Lac comes from a duo of French-born friends, one of whom may already be familiar to Valley diners. Catherine Berraud Dufour, of the now defunct Au Petit Four, will serve as restaurant and bakery manager for the new spot.

Rise Up Bakery Is Now Open in Gilbert Serving Specialty Bread, Cookies, Brownies, and More

The East Valley got a new place for freshly-baked bread last month when Rise Up Bakery opened its doors at 861 N. Higley Road in Gilbert.

The bakery comes courtesy of husband and wife team Jay and Danielle Lunt, who owned a bakery in Las Vegas before picking up and moving to Phoenix to be closer to family. Now, after years spent out of the kitchen, the couple says they want to return to the baking biz.

4 New Restaurants Open at Westgate in Glendale

Westgate Entertainment District -- the sprawling retail, dining, and entertainment destination in Glendale -- will welcome four new restaurants to the scene this week. That means four new places for Valley locals to love and four places to accommodate the deluge of visitors who will descend on the area over the next few weeks.

Westgate, located just steps from University of Phoenix Stadium, will also host the Super Music Series, a five-day free concert series, as a lead-up to the 2015 Pro Bowl and Super Bowl XLIX.

Zang Asian Bistro Has Reopened in Historic Downtown Glendale

The downtown Glendale restaurant has returned.
It's been several years since Zang Asian Bistro closed its doors in downtown Glendale but there's finally some good news for the restaurant's fans.

The neighborhood spot has reopened its doors at 6835 North 58th Drive in Glendale, bringing the cuisines of China, Japan, Singapore, and Malaysia to the downtown neighborhood.

Sanfratello's Chicago Pizzeria to Open First Arizona Location in Gilbert

Ex-Windy City inhabitants may recognize the name Sanfratello's; the family-style pizzeria has been serving pizzas, pastas, and dinner entrees on the south side of Chicago since the 1960s. Later this month, the restaurant will open its first Arizona location. The take-out and delivery restaurant will be located at 857 Warner Road in Gilbert.

If you're a fan of artisan micro-bakery Noble Bread, then you'll be happy to hear the duo behind it -- baker Jason Raducha and chef-partner Claudio Uricuoli -- have plans to open a lunch restaurant in Central Phoenix later this year.

Called Noble Eatery, the new dining spot will be located at 2201 East McDowell Road in the former home of So We Meat Again. Raducha says Noble Eatery will be "a showcase for the bread" and a "place for Claudio to play."

German Osio to Open Kale & Clover in North Scottsdale Later This Year

Local restauranteur German Osio, the man behind such spots as Local Bistro and SumoMaya, has plans to expand his collection of dining spots by one later this year.

In December, Osio and the Osio Culinary Group team plan to open a fourth restaurant called Kale & Clover: Mindful Kitchen at 20511 N. Hayden Road at Hayden Peak Crossing in Scottsdale. Executive chef Chris Mayo will oversee the new restaurant in addition to serving as executive chef at Osio's central Phoenix restaurant, Central Bistro.

Barrio Avion: Chef Silvana Salcido Esparza Has Opened a Restaurant at Sky Harbor Terminal 2

Just weeks after announcing her plans to open a second restaurant at The Yard in Phoenix, chef Silvana Salcido Esparza has unveiled a new fast-casual concept in Terminal 2 at Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport. Called Barrio Avion, the restaurant takes a cue from Tinta Mexicana, a concept Esparza designed for the food court at Arizona Mills mall in Tempe.

At Barrio Avion, diners can build their own burritos, tacos, and bowls -- a la Chipotle -- as well as choose from a few quesadilla and salad options. The restaurant also serves beers, wine, tequila, and margaritas.

The Lodge in Scottsdale Is Closing This Weekend; New Location to Open in Tempe

Get ready to say good-bye to The Lodge in Scottsdale.
Scottsdale will lose a standby dining and drinking spot this Sunday when chef Aaron May's The Lodge closes its doors for good. Known for its cabin-esque atmosphere and infamous Sasquatch Burger, The Lodge has been a popular locale for dining and drinking during the day and night.

The silver lining to the loss is that May and his Lodge co-owners have purchased another nearby bar. Owner Quinn Goldsberry says they won't be changing the new spot into The Lodge, but that they will be re-opening the bar elsewhere.

Boulders on Southern, Sister Spot to Boulders on Broadway, to Open in Mesa

Since 2007, Boulders on Broadway has been a destination for bike riders, beer drinkers, and students looking for a chill place to hang out. Founded by Erick and Rochelle Geryol, the spot is known for its ski lodge vibe, extensive beer list, and menu of Chicago-style pizzas, calzones, and more.

Now Geryol is taking the concept about seven miles east to 1010 W. Southern Avenue in Mesa. That's where he plans to open Boulders on Southern, a sister location to the original Boulders on Broadway.
