After 10 years, the Scottsdale sushi spot has closed its doors -- with plans for a new location in Chandler and hopes to open another in Scottsdale.
After a decade of success in Old Town Scottsdale, the original location of Stingray Sushi has closed its doors. The restaurant's lease is up, but owners say they're already looking for a new location in the area. The goal is to reopen a Scottsdale sushi outlet in 2015.

In the meantime, there's plenty of other raw fish to be had. Stingray Sushi's sister restaurant, Geisha-A-Go-Go, has expanded its lunch offerings to seven days a week, and a third location of Stringray is on track to open in the Southeast Valley later this fall.

Stingray Sushi Chandler/Ahwatukee will be located at 900 North 54th Street, just off I-10 and Ray Road.

The 5,000-square-foot restaurant will be housed in a custom-built space set to be completed by late October. The design will include two spacious and shaded dining patios. The restaurant will serve chef Andrew Nam's menu of creative sushi, noodles, salads, soups, bento box lunches, and signature entrees. The drink menu will be handcrafted by well-known Valley mixologist Jason Asher.

"Back in 2003, we opened our little sushi bar inside a 2,300-square-foot space, and we never thought Stingray would grow to include three additional restaurants all across the Valley," says Bryan Chittenden, co-owner of Stingray Sushi along with Greg Donnally and Andrew Nam.

The restaurant announced its closure last week on Facebook. Stingray Sushi at the Biltmore Fashion Park and Scottsdale Quarter are still open.

The sushi was never the best, but it's decent and the atmosphere was great. Guess I'll be going to the Quarter now.

Wow, we were just talking about this happening. I don't understand why, mostly because I think stingray is better than Ra, and that's the other option for sushi over there. It doesn't make sense to me!

Yes I will, I really liked that place, and close by. Old Town is getting sadder by the day.
