TEN Handcrafted American Fare & Spirits to Open Later This Month at Camelback Esplanade

It's been about only two months since Fuego del Mar (formerly Fuego Taco) closed its doors at Camelback Esplanade after a three-and-a-half-year run. But already a new restaurant has moved into the space and plans to open for business within the next week.

The newest spot to come to the Biltmore area shopping center is called TEN Handcrafted American Fare & Spirits and comes courtesy of a former Z'Tejas Southwestern Grill corportate chef, Jeff Hostenske.

Ten will serve a menu that includes Midwestern fare and Southern cuisine complemented by a selection of craft beers, small batch spirits, and wines.

On the lunch menu, look for dishes such as a pressed cuban ($10.50), BBQ pulled pork sandwich ($10), and Cincinnati chili ($10). Dinners entrées will include pot roast with mashed potato and carrots ($17), Chicken a la King and Queen with wilted spinach ($15), and roasted pork shoulder with sweet BBQ glaze and collard greens ($16).

The selection of cocktails varies from classics such as a Manhattans and margaritas to more interesting options like the pecan pie martinis made with Tito's vodka, pecan liqueur, and vanilla simple syrup.

The restaurant is expected to open on Monday, August 18. For more information, check the Ten Handcrafted American Fare & Spirits Facebook.

Jeff... the food was exquisite, the drinks were flavorful and refreshing, and the staff, yourself included, was a blast to converse (laugh our a$$ off) with while we dined and sipped libations.

Feel like this will be one of our regular spots for date night. Thanks Michael for putting up with our shenanigans.. you were a champ wheelchair.

Don't sleep on this new spot in the esplanade.. it will be standing room only before you know it. TEN thumbs up! Nice work Jeff, keep the passion and success will surely follow..

Attended the soft opening Saturday evening and all I can say about the restaurant is "Wow!" Do not miss this place or you will be missing something really special. The people are friendly, the decor is very inviting, the wines are awesome, and the food-- nothing less than perfection!  We started out with the Hush Puppies with bacon & bleu cheese appetizer.  It was so delicious I told my husband we should order another helping!  Our spinach salad was out of the ordinary with granny smith apple shreddings, cabbage, spinach & goat cheese.  The flavors all meshed together.  Definitely one of the best salads I've ever had.  My husband ordered the steak & handout fries.  He's very picky about his steak and often is disappointed in how it is cooked, but TEN nailed it.  He couldn't stop raving.  I tasted his fries and they were crisp on the outside & perfect on the inside.  I had the pan-fried fish (which is whatever the fresh fish of the day is that day).  Mine was Atlantic Salmon.  It was perfectly cooked (crisp on the outside & tender like butter on the inside).  The salmon was beautifully presented on top of a bed of corn and a layer of cooked fresh green beans.  I can honestly say it would be hard not to order this again next time I come.  It was so good!  I can hardly wait to come back and try the lunch menu.  I'm really looking forward to the Cincinnati Chili!

How do you get to be a part of the soft opening?

Soft opening half-priced dining the last couple of days. My boss, who is an extreme foodie, said that the pork loin and mashed potatoes was so good he was going to buy it to serve for Thanksgiving, which is a huge compliment coming from him. I went for lunch today hoping to try those potatoes with the "Better the Next Day" pot roast and mash listed on their lunch menu online. Was very disappointed to find out they had taken it off the lunch menu; you have to go for dinner to get them.  Jeff- keep your online menu up-to-date, especially during our early days of getting to know you. Big disappointment on my first visit is not getting things off to a great start.  I got over it and had the pulled pork sandwich and a cup of the home-made chicken noodle soup. Both were good and the soup clearly home-made. (I am a soup maker myself...You can tell.)  The sandwich was messy and hard to eat - I ended up abandoning the bun and eating a pork entre with a fork. I saw others around me doing the same thing. My co-worker also went for lunch today and got a burger. She was not impressed. It was seriously undercooked and had sauteed onions in the meat. Onions were not listed on the menu and she has serious digestive issues from onions.  Need to get those descriptions of the food refined. I'm sure she asked about onions - she ALWAYS does.  New restaurant, New staff, they maybe didn't know there were onions IN the burger?

At any rate, mixed reviews on the food so far, but they're just getting into their groove.  Give it a chance before you write it off.

I own Fuego and sold this business to Jeff.. He is super committed to making this something special, and hopefully the dawn of the rebirth of the Esplanade.. Support this guy when you go see a movie, and help revitalize this complex.. Please don't hate on a guy who is putting all of it on Black.. Mr. Hostenske is putting it all on the line.. It takes brass balls to take the plunge, so please don't start off with "Sounds uninspiring.." Its not.. Its actually quite the opposite, its one man risking everything for a dream.

@daisypetal2003 Just show up. I'm not sure how long they are doing it, so call to find out first and do it soon. It might have just been Thursday & Friday... or maybe through the weekend.

@legitfatgi Appreciate the sentiment - I hope that he can make a go of it. He will need to keep "taking a pulse" and maybe get a little creative to get the Monday through Friday lunch crowd and happy hour business. A lot of the rank and file employees around The Esplanade need a cost-effective and interesting lunch option.  I'm sure you, as an owner, kept an eye on the other restaurants in the plaza - remember McCormick & Schmick' s "Ten Under $10" and Deemo' s daily lunch specials? M&S was almost always packed for lunch.  Granted, Jeff can't do 10 specials every day but maybe he could do one or two... I want to see him succeed. He seems like a really nice guy.
