You know what? It's time Arizona got a new state food. The chimichanga is not doing us all justice and we have a much more capable candidate in mind that is up to the task of carrying our state's culinary affections in a soft bolillo bun.

That's right, folks. The Sonoran dog is pretty much as Arizona as it gets and in Phoenix the words Sonoran dog are synonymous with Nogales Hot Dog-- the small stand set up in a parking lot on the southwest corner of 20th Street and Indian School Road.

This roadside attraction starts with a bacon-wrapped dog in a bolillo bun. It's then covered in mayo, tomatoes, beans, onions and a variety of other sauces, typically served with a roasted pepper on the side. You might find yourself ordering a bottle of coke on the side if you spice yours up too much-- after all, they are the perfect pair. However, the real trick is ordering just one hot dog because the service is speedy, friendly, and pretty much urging you to keep going. Hey, we won't judge you for over-indulging in a little state pride.
