Union Barrelhouse to Open in Scottsdale: House-Made Beer, Tavern Cuisine
A new urban tavern will be opening in Old Town Scottsdale early next month. Union Barrelhouse, courtesy of Scottsdale restauranteur John Casale, will occupy the former home of Salty Senorita at 3636 N. Scottsdale Road.
Union Barrelhouse The new restaurant will open in July.
The restaurant will offer a menu of "upscale tavern" cuisine, including salads, burgers, and a whole section dedicated to variations of grilled cheese. One of the main draws is expected to be the restaurant's proprietary draft beer program, which will include five craft beers brewed in-house.
Union Barrelhouse Executive Chef Brian Feirstein's menu includes starters such as Chophouse Gravy Fries, a take on poutine, that includes hand cut Russet potatoes, bourbon bacon gravy, and cheese curds ($8). There's also Beale Street Wings ($10), Mussels & Clams in a white wine sauce ($12), and Liberty Fondue with pretzel sticks ($9).
For entrees diners will have choices including Tommy's "Shaken" Chopped Salad with romaine, grape tomatoes, cucumber, green beans, red onion, roasted peppers, carrots, mozzarella, pretzel croutons, bacon, and creamy parmesan basil vinaigrette ($11). Heartier options include The Union Grilled Steak Burger ($15), a Black Bean Veg Burger ($10), Grilled King Salmon ($18), and Oven Baked Smoky Mac & Cheese ($11).
There's also a selection of Modern Melts, the chef's take on a classic grilled cheese. Think creations such as the All American made with smoked mozzarella, pit roasted ham, beefsteak tomato, red onion, and peppercorn aioli ($12) and the PB & J, with triple crème brie, Bosc pears, bacon jam, and wild arugula ($12).
On the bar side, there will be five housemade brews: Barrelhouse Golden Ale, Barrelhouse IPA, Barrelhouse Imperial Porter, Barrelhouse Hefeweizen, and Barrelhouse Wheat Bock.
You can also look forward to growlers to-go, adult milkshakes, and organic sodas on tap. There will be a total of thirty handles of local, regional, and large craft beers, as well as a small menu of signature cocktails.
Other features will include a 2,000-square-foot temperature-controlled patio, indoor/outdoor bar, live entertainment, and complimentary rides for patrons on the "Hop Stop" to other Old Town beer-centric establishments.
The restaurant is expected to open in early next month. Keep an eye on the Union Barrelhouse Facebook for updates.
