The company currently operates 16 stores in Washington, Oregon, and California.
There already are nearly a half-dozen places vying for your fast-casual, create-your-own pizza dollars in town, and next month, one more will enter the Phoenix market.

The latest addition is MOD Pizza, a Seattle-based company that operates 16 locations in Washington, Oregon and California. MOD Pizza claims to be "the originator of the 'build your own pizza' concept" and has set its sights on Gilbert for the beginning of its Arizona expansion.

The first MOD Pizza in Arizona will be at 2904 South San Tan Village Parkway, inside the San Tan Village shopping center. The 2,400-square-foot store will feature a "large outdoor patio, high ceilings and a hip, inspired interior."

The menu lets diners build their own pizza in either mini ($4.47), regular ($7.17), or mega ($9.17). You can also build a "pizza salad" that features greens and toppings on a asiago pizza crust.

The regular pizza is an 11-inch pie to which any number of toppings can be added. Options include either red, white, or bbq sauce as a base and asiago, parmesean, feta, or mozzerella cheeses. Protein toppings include anchovies, meatballs, chicken, bacon, pepperoni, and salami, while vegetables include everything from tomato, spinach, basil, and garlic to artichokes, fresh rosemary, and sundried tomato.

There are also 11 pre-set pizzas should you not want to build you own, in addition to salads, and sides such as garlic or chocolate bread knots.

BEST pizza place ever! When we lived in Seattle, we went to MOD every Sunday for dinner. Can't wait to have a Gilbert location.
