Forget your diet. Get a Chicago dog, cheese fries, and a chocolate cake shake.

When Portillo's first opened in Arizona, the Chicago-area chain had hour long lines. If you were already a Portillo's fan, waiting that hour was no problem after the years and years you probably waited for the restaurant to make its Phoenix-area debut. If you weren't already a fan, chances are you quickly joined the Portillo's cult. Welcome.

While the char-grilled hamburgers, Italian beef sandwiches, addicting cheese fries, and sinful chocolate cake shakes are all good reason to stop in to either the North Scottsdale or Tempe locations, if you really want a legit taste of Chicago, you have to get the hot dog. See, at Portillo's you don't have to specify Chicago dog when you order because that's the default. You'll get onions, tomatoes, relish, a pickle, sport peppers, mustard, and, of course, celery salt.

All of that goodness is piled on a 100 percent Vienna beef dog and delivered on a soft sesame seed bun. Best of all, the whole shebang is only $2.65. Just please, for the love of the Windy City, do not put ketchup on it.

Portillos doesn't even use Vienna beef anymore. Not what it used to be.

First, Ted's is fantastic. Second, Ted's has nothing to do with Chicago style dogs. Apples to oranges. Third, Portillo's is mediocre at best. Best Chicago dog in the metro is easily Jimmy's Hot Dogs.

The only reason this place gets any good reviews is because of it's Chicago history. If you want a great hot dog or burger cooked on a grill, go to

That restaurant portillos is a cluster fuck of bad planning not enough table/ parking spaces not allowed to get a table unless u have gotten your food. I'm heard of hearing I had no idea where to wait to get my food all the people looked like pigeons waiting for crumbs to thrown to get food. They messed up my order my table was dirty the beef dip sandwich was bland and nothing special. It was the atmosphere of eating in a really noisy over crowded food court with only one choice of place and no where to sit

*poppy seed bun
