We're calling it. It may only be April, but summer in Phoenix has pretty much arrived.

We know because Chef James Porter's Petite Maision has switched over to a dinner-only schedule, making it the first (we've heard) of the many restaurants in town that will either cut back to limited hours or close altogether for the summer. The modern French restaurant also has launched a new spring menu with dishes such as stuffed cuttlefish, roasted asparagus, and thyme profiteroles.

Petite Maison will go back to serving lunch in October but will continue serving dinner and Sunday brunch throughout the summer.

The new dinner menu introduces quite a few new dishes including hors d'oeuvres such as roasted asparagus with poached duck egg, hazelnuts, crispy spam, XO sauce ($12); tomato tartar with EVOO caviar, lemon crème fraiche, and bonito flakes ($12); and stuffed cuttlefish with roasted fennel, spinach, and heirloom tomatoes ($12).

New entrees include beet pappardelle with grilled rapini, petit basque, toasted pine nuts, and lemon zest ($23); smoked duck breast with Asian pear confit, pickled baby leeks, and black mission fig ($28); and Mediterranean bouillabaisse with langoustine, clams, mussels, scallop, and cuttlefish ($35).

The restaurant, which has been open for about four years, underwent a renovation last fall that included both the menu and the interior design. Porter decided to steer the menu and concept away from classical French cuisine in favor of more modern French with inspiration from international dishes.

You can view the complete menu on the next page.

Petite Maison will be open for dinner from 5 to 10 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. Happy Hour is available from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday Champagne brunch in served from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information visit the Petite Maison website.
