We told you earlier this month that LGO Hospitality -- the group behind La Grande Orange, Ingo's Tasty Food, and Chelsea's Kitchen among others -- has plans to open a new restaurant at 4225 East Camelback Road. That location currently home to a small complex called Camelback Court, in which the restaurant Havana Cafe has been located since 1989.

The restaurant, owned by BJ (Betty-Jane) Hernandez, will close its doors on Sunday, April 6. The building is going to be torn down in order to make room for LGO's new project, which will consist of a freestanding building for the restaurant, a patio, and parking lot.

The Republic reports that on April 6 the cafe will open at 3 p.m. and close at 9 p.m. Diners who stop in for a final meal will get "a free black-bean fritter with avocado dip appetizer" as well as a discount card for Hernandez's other restaurant, Havana Patio Cafe, in Scottsdale.

The Republic also reports that Hernandez will be looking for a new space in the same neighborhood over the next few months. Though with the boom of new restaurants along the 44th Street/Camelback corridor, finding a new home may be difficult -- particularly since Hernandez says she's looking for buildings with existing restaurant equipment.

Hernandez opened Havana Cafe with her late husband, Gilbert, who passed away at 85 last August. Gilbert was born in Havana, Cuba, and eventually moved to New York, where he met BJ. The couple arrived in the Valley in 1978 and opened Havana Cafe on Camelback Road in 1989. Two years later, they opened Havana Patio Cafe.
