Kaleidoscope Opens New Bike-Friendly Juice Bar in Old Town Scottsdale (Spoiler Alert: Organic Coffee)

Alexandra Maw has been thinking about juice bars before juice bars were a thing in the Valley.

She came up with a business plan for one as a student as ASU and, thanks to a grant from the university, made her dream a reality in late 2012, founding Kaleidoscope Juice with mom and co-owner Andrea at 4014 Goldwater Boulevard in Old Town Scottsdale.

The growing trend, along with a signature product of organic cold-pressed juices, made Kaleidoscope a hit. And just last week, the mother-daughter team opened their newest and fourth location, a Kaleidoscope Juice at 7119 East 1st Avenue in Scottsdale.

Here's what to expect (spoiler alert: organic coffee).

Along with its signature cold-pressed juices -- made with fruits and vegetables and accented with things like ginger, cayenne, and oregano -- the new Kaleidoscope will offer smoothies and shakes; gluten-free baked goods like peanut butter protein cookies and zucchini muffins from baker and Chow Bella contributor Rachel Miller; and organic coffee.

"All of our ingredients are one-hundred percent certified organic," Alexandra says, "And we try not to let anything go to waste. We collect over two-and-a-half tons of pulp each week from our stores. It goes to places like St. Vincent de Paul and other community gardens to feed the soil and chickens."

Kaleidoscope's small, bike-friendly space (it's next door to Bicycle Haus) will feature a walk-up/bike-through window, an outdoor community table, and a grab-and-go cooler. Along with several options for juice cleanses as well as juice delivery, guests can expect events such as speakers on nutrition and health and yoga classes.

In addition to the 1st Avenue location, there is a second Kaleidoscope Juice Bar in Downtown Phoenix, inside Chloe's Corner. Grab-and-go Kaleidoscope shops include the Maw's original space in Old Town (Goldwater and Indian School Road) and in North Scottsdale at the corner of Thompson Peak and Bell Road.

"When Starbucks bought Evolution Fresh, I knew juice bars were here to say," Alexandra says. "We came in at a really good time, I try not to pay attention to the competition. We just put on noses to the grindstone and stay stern in our beliefs."
