Cornish Pasty Co. goes to Scottsdale but retains its edge.
The Interior:
Joining the Tempe and Mesa locations, Cornish Pasty Co. opened off Goldwater Boulevard just south of Indian School Road late last year. Although the restaurant manages to stay true to its dark, cave-like pub roots, the converted house is still inviting to the typical Old Town Scottsdale crowd. The outdoor bar and indoor bench seating give ample options to drinkers and diners and tend to fill up around dinner time. However, you'll easily find a place to sit during happy hour.

The Food:
Cornish Pasty Co. doesn't offer discounts on food during happy hour. Pasties run from $8 to $10 with appetizers under $7. Spicy tandoori wings ($6.50) with a creamy, tangy yogurt sauce hit the spot between pints. If you're looking for some classic British fare, the Scotch egg, which is a deep-fried breaded hard-boiled egg with an outer layer of sausage, will satisfy any anglophile. However, the $5 price tag might seem a little steep when you realize you only get one egg quartered.

The real winner off Cornish Pasty Co.'s appetizer list is the homemade chicken liver pate. The smooth, herby spread is accompanied by butter, pickled onions and thick (sometimes hard to bite through) crostini. Or you can just skip the appetizers entirely and shell out $9 for a Royale with Cheese pasty because the appetizers aren't cheaper anyway and pasties really are the reason to go.

This place should get an "F" for its Happy Hour. I think the point of these stories (Happy Hour Report Card) is to grade a place's Happy Hour. Well, this one has a pretty non-existent Happy Hour so why give it a B-.  If this were a restaurant review, then yes, awesome food and good prices abound, A+ - but if you don't make an effort to have a real "happy hour" then grade it appropriately.

I hope the idiot who wrote this blog takes their "B-", & eats somewhere else, because I don't want to wait to be seated because they're taking up space in a place they don't love. The prices at Cornish Pasty are so reasonable for the portions & quality of food you get! Happy hour, or not! And where else are you going to fill up (on that quality of food) for a an appetizer, a main, & a beer for less than $20 bucks in Scottsdale?? The Scotch Egg is well worth $5 -if you see how much sausage is packed on there. (Of which they obviously didn't order) And why WOULD you want to fill up before you eat a pasty? That's why it's an appetizer! Get a new job, your review skillz suck.
