Amy and Samy Bouzaglo of Amy's Baking Company
Amy and Samy Bouzaglo of the infamous Amy's Baking Company in Scottsdale continue to shrivel the soul of society by being named two of America's Worst Bosses of 2013 by eBossWatch, an online career resource that enables people to anonymously rate their bosses and evaluate potential employers.

With a laundry list of restaurant owner WTFs that included taking tips from servers, firing a waitress on national television and calling her a "poisonous little viper", and allegedly making employees sign a legally binding work contract complete with "possible monetary penalties", the fact that the Bouzaglos made the list can be summed up in two words: No shit. Or, in cat: Meow, meow.

But here's the surprising part.

Chosen by a panel of workplace experts who selected and ranked the worst bosses from across the nation, the eBossWatch Worst Bosses list, its fifth, named 50 managers who "were named in workplace lawsuits filed by their employees or were accused of workplace harassment and/or sexual harassment, discrimination, retaliation, and/or creating a hostile work environment."

Here's a little of what eBossWatch had to say about the Bouzaglos' management style:

"After watching the Amy's Baking Company Kitchen Nightmares episode, it quickly became clear why, according to Amy and Samy, they have gone through 'hundreds' of employees. Workplace bullying was one of the main ingredients that the owners displayed during much of the show."

The surprising part? The Bouzaglos were ranked sixth on the list, beaten by former San Diego mayor Bob Filner, the general manager of a Florida travel agency, a deputy warden at Rikers Island, the owner of an oil company in New Hampshire, and the president of a Syracuse mortuary school.

All this means that there are, apparently, five more horrible places in this country to work than Amy's Baking Company. But at least the Bouzaglos can take some shit-show pride in the fact that they're the only Arizona bosses to make the list.

The eBossWatch website goes on to say that, to date, the "2013 America's Worst Bosses have cost their employers over $52 million in monetary damages and lawsuit settlement payments. Of this amount, the 33 public sector bosses have cost their respective taxpayers over $21 million."

If I see that TRAMP Amy jogging alongside Mine Creek Road I will be sure to hit the gas and leave her as road pizza for the vultures(or wild cats).  It will probably taste better than anything in their restaurant !!!  ... and we can bury that Mafioso wannabee gangster Samy in the desert !!!(if he doesn't get deported first !!!)

Ladies and Gentlemen, another reason that this couple is deserving of the title of one of the six worst bosses in America: They have banned ANOTHER person who was kind, polite and nice to them, but simply stated facts and links.

I salute you gentleperson (I will not say your name but you know whom you are) for showing the world that this couple is wanting the badmouthing and nonsense spewed on their page so they can act as victims.

Ladies and gentlemen, I give you this - if Amy and Samy were TRULY wanting to show people such as the staff of the Phoenix New Times wrong, they would be doing the following:

1. NOT showing they have slow service (I will be a bit fair and say that I can't ascertain they have no service) by responding to folks on Facebook during obvious peak hours of service (1-3 or dinner time, about 5-7) on work night, where they should be busy as all get out serving folks.

2. NOT spending their time interviewing their staff with leading questions, which show that they are desperate for attention or hiding comments and facts under the wall. This too shows that they are having slow business at the very minimum, desperation at proving the "haters" (real and imagined) wrong.

By the way, these also bring to question if these folks are actors - as they did send out a job wanted ad wanting resumes WITH PHOTOS for their staff (which was hiring for an alleged reality series, when in fact it was just a pilot being filmed). And Amy or Samy, if you're reading these comments - this IS public record and was on your Facebook Page.

3. Using what downtime they have to learn to cook simple and elegant dishes, and more importantly work on their people skills to handle criticism well, and even more so when they have the few trolls and bashers go after them.

Oh, and if you go after me, a fact: I've been there, done that and got the T-shirt Amy. I had a half hour argument with a woman who thought that because the words "(Store) doesn't allow rhinestones and pearls to be returned/exchanged" were not over every piece of jewelry the rule didn't apply to her. I was firm, polite DIDN'T yell, and did what I could, but in the end, she took my name and the number, but even the District Manager said I was right (meaning I wasn't fired).

4. Not banning folks for simply questioning them or showing facts and letting folks decide. If they supposedly have all these fans, why not let them see both sides and make a decision on their own terms.

5. Not lying about things that are public record, such as how they were asked for the show, that they were edited wrong (the film crew wouldn't have gotten the footage if they didn't act that way), and NOT claiming pastries are theirs and not (i.e. the claim a cake is theirs when clearly the decorations are NOT cranberries but cherries).

6. Admit that the moment the company was told they'd be filmed for "Kitchen NIGHTMARES" they should've said no if they were afraid of the bad reputation. I mean, honestly - if they were scouted, the term "Nightmares" should've warned them the bad would be shown, and if they chose to apply for the show (which is what I have read, but am giving a fairness for her claims), should've realized the same thing.

In the end - if this company thinks that this is GOOD publicity, then I think they will be out of business within a year most. And all they had to do was listen to Ramsay, see what he had to offer THEN make a decision to apply it or not.

Seeing them on TV was enough for us!We could walk there from our home and wouldn't go if it were free.

@Patrick Bohler that probably explains why every time I go to Brewers Connection there always seem to be a whole new staff and I go at least every 2 weeks

Gotta love how these two freaks keep getting press. Jailbird Amy looks like Herman Munster in drag and she finds and marries a sugar daddy that is not only facing deportation, but is so old and senile that he actually thinks he's a thug. I cant believe he actually puts his old wrinkled ass up in peoples faces and tries to talk tough. If not for sympathy, respect for old people and the strong penalties for elder abuse in this State, Grandpa Samy would spend a large portion of his time sitting on the floor  trying to remember who hit him last. Who on earth would want to hang around this zoo, let alone still have an appetite while they were there!

Let me get this straight, Gordon Ramsay, the guy who's "saved" around 10% of the restaurants he's been brought in to help, opps I mean promote his own brand, he's the guy you're backing? Rather than letting his "reality" show feed me opinions, I actually went to this restaurant and, shockingly to many of you, enjoyed it. Maybe if many of you actually created your own experiences rather than have TV create them for you, you'd have informed opinions. Until then, you're drinking the kool-aid.

I've just recently noticed this couple's facebook page starting to post up interviews with their "staff" saying how great it is to work with the couple. These happen after I - known as Jade von Wer on their page, started making the notes here.

Truth is - Amy and Samy are on record for wanting to hire folks with a certain look and attitude for their "reality TV series." This BTW was the same reality series that I questioned and was banned from their page, simply for asking if they were violating their FOX contract.

So - I'm sorry, but I do NOT believe one iota of ANY of those interviews given that the hiring for the reality show IS on the Internet and therefore a fact.

I've said before and I'll say again - if Amy wants to try and gain my trust, why doesn't she show it and actually unban me? All she's done is proven time and time again that what was shown was the truth.

To the Phoenix New Times, I thank you for actually reporting what the rest of Scottsdale (and the world) sees of this couple.

By the way to Amy and Santa, and those who CAN post on the Facebook page...

That cake you supposedly made with "fried sage" and "candied cranberries"...

You are flat out LYING you made that Amy.

The "cranberries" are maraschino cherry halves, most likely the kind in fruitcake.

Cranberries do NOT turn that shade and are much smaller.

Sage is also BITTER if eaten while leabed. You REMOVE them before serving and why bitter I. A dessert to begin with?

Plus the photo has been found as another's.

Amy, instead of playing victim, PLEASE admit you lied time and time again and just say you are going to start fresh. Even doing an update with Gordon and asking for help, or just admitting you made a mistake would help you out.

tigremalabarista

Sorry but there's a lot of truth to this blog. I personally was banned from their Facebook page because I simply questioned whether or not this pilot they were filming was within bounds of the contract with Fox.

I said I didn't think so, because they have to cease and desist letter put on them then poof I was banned.

In fact, it was very similar to in Katy was fired for simply saying "are you sure."

I didn't mock them, call them names or anything just made a question and I was banned.

Just being banned for asking a simple question

Makes me question food and other items.

Why?

Because if you validate the fact that people fired for asking questions by banning me, you validate other aspects of the footage that was shown on Kitchen Nightmares.

All they would have to do is lift my ban from the Facebook page (I go by a different moniker there and will be happy to give if they are willing to remove it) to prove these allegations wrong.

So far... They take said link down, validating my point and this one of the story as well.

I love it when they get bad press! They are terrible people and deserve to be treated as such. I cant wait until they close their business already! BEGONE!

After watching the show it's really hard to sort fact from fiction (acting). I wonder what it's really like at the restaurant, but have no desire to go there to find out. 'Reality TV'. Right.

tigremalabarista
tigremalabarista

Obviously they've had few people come in if they have time to do "staff" interviews (and staff in quotes given they said they we're hiring people with certain look...and sure gullible too... For their reality series... Which was just a pilot.)

And given I've seen timestamps in their Facebook page CLEARLY during hours ....and days... They're open, they're not as must as claiming.

If they'd spend the time they did in the "staff" interviews in cooking or apologizing (not excusing) their behavior, they'd be better off long term.

Asmethinks it is, methinks they are doing badly.

tigremalabarista
tigremalabarista

Daniel....

1. It us MORE THAN 10%.

2. The successful ones have gotten bigger or at least MORE SALES than before.

3. If a business fails, it was either going to regardless or the owners didn't keep the advice. That us THEIR decision, not Ramsay's, and yes, a few of them we're already too far gone to be saved.

Finally...

4. If Amy and Samy's Business is such a "HUGE SUCCESS" WHY is Amy responding to "haters" at 1 p.m. their time... with the store OPEN and during the peak lunch hour?

(and yes this is true...I checked the timestamp.)

Please just admit you are either one of th or paid for review.

Norman
Norman

Right, how much free food did you get for posting this?

tigremalabarista
tigremalabarista

Fact is... They are doing bad if they are responding to folks on Facebook at 1 p.m. on a work day... Even sometimes 2-3 times during service

I am NOT saying they have no one come in but common sense.... Not "hate" concludes that if you are on that site you aren't as busy as they claim.

Oh and again, given I was BANNED Afro their page for merely questioning the legality of their "reality" show.

Amy gave ammo for quptes by the wau. O still find it ironic they wanted one for "their side" of the story when they denounced the "KN" episode as edited negatively... Giving ammo to "haters" who would say their production edited with lies.)
