Best Neighborhood Mexican Restaurant - North Phoenix: La 15 Y Salsas Mexican Grill

If you are a fan of mole, the dark, intricate sauce made with dozens of nuts, chiles, and spices, you could do worse than pay a visit to Elizabeth Hernandez's cheery Oaxacan restaurant in Sunnyslope, La 15 Y Salsas Mexican Grill. Available in red or black, the mole can be had spooned over chicken or chicken enchiladas. Read more here.

Los Sombreros Hibiscus Enchiladas are just one of many excellent, traditional Mexican dishes served up at the Scottsdale restaurant.
Best Neighborhood Mexican Restaurant - Scottsdale: Los Sombreros

Every year, Los Sombreros chef Azucena Tovar travels back to her childhood home of San Miguel de Allende in central Mexico. And every year, we can't wait for her to return. That's when she adds new dishes to her already stellar menu of well-crafted Mexican food -- the kind that have been bringing Scotts-dalians back to her charming brick home for almost 20 years. I don't understand how 122 N. 16th St ( Asadero Norte De Sonora) which is further south than 907 N. 14th St (Rito's Mexican Food) is considered Central Phoenix while Rito's is Downtown Phoenix?

El Nortano on 7th Ave & Roosevelt! Cash only & you can only sit outside in an enclosed area, but TOTALLY worth it!

Hate to tell you folks this, but we have much better Mexican food at ANY of our restaurants in Holbrook AZ than can be found anywhere in Phoenix. Come to Holbrook sometime and try it! But if I have to choose one... it would be Los Dos Molinos.

So Phoenix gets broken up into four sections but Gilbert/Mesa/Chandler/Tempe/San Tan is categorized into one section (Southeast Valley)? I dunno about that ...

Dan Martinez- the Mexican food we have here in AZ is called TexMex. I agree, it is not "real" Mexican food, but you have to look at what part of Mexico your talking about also. Different regions have different types of food. And btw, Chimichangas where "invintes" in Tucson by a Mexican.lady who accidentally dropped a burrito into her deep fryer. The only "real" Mexican food we have here (items from Mexico) are Nanchos, that was created after hours in a restraunt in Mexico for a couple of American GIs that entered the restraunt....

All this Mexican food, with the exception of the taco shown in the photo, looks like shit. For a big city with a large Mexican population, Phoenix falls well short of having an abundance of good Mexican food. Example 1 - using Monterrey jack and cheddar cheese to garnish oily beans is not real Mexican food. Example 2 - a burrito the size of your head is not real Mexican food. Example 3 - chimichanga is not real Mexican food. Other big cities with awesome Mexican food are L.A., San Francisco and Chicago.

Via Delosantos in Sunnyslope & La Condesa/La Santisima are my faves. For what it's worth, Fajitas on I17/Peoria makes the best tortillas in town. Always fresh, a bit thick, straight from the griddle. Yes, better tortillas than any homestyle authentic Mex place in the city. Try their tortillas- you won't be disappointed.

La Condesa! Or rather, La Santisima.

For spicy New Mexican style, Los Dos Molinos. For more traditional Mexican, Rio Rico Mexican Grill.
