Los Sombreros Opening Second Location in North Scottsdale on Friday
The new location, a remodeled space at 14795 North Northsight Boulevard (formerly Javinos restaurant) in North Scottsdale, will open at 11 a.m. Friday, November 1.
Here's what's in store.
Like the original location, the new Los Sombreros will feature Tovar's menu of well-crafted Mexican food inspired by her childhood home in the Spanish Colonial city of San Miguel de Allende in Central Mexico. Think dishes like alcaparrando (baby back ribs on a bed of shredded chicken with caper-tomatillo sauce), a pork chop with a sweet-citrus tamarind mole, and salads such as fig and panela cheese with mixed greens and balsamic vinaigrette.
"After 19 years in south Scottsdale, we wanted to bring our unique take on traditional Mexican foods, as well as our famously warm, welcoming atmosphere, to a new neighborhood," Tovar says. "I'm very proud to share these timeless traditions with a new audience."
The new Los Sombreros will also continue Tovar's 10-course, two-person tasting menu and to-go gift packs of gourmet hand-rolled holiday tamales.
On the libations side, guests can select from a full bar menu, including an expanded wine list, as well as sangria, liqueur-fueled coffee drinks, 50 premium tequilas and mezcals, 12 kinds of margaritas, and Mexican and artisanal domestic beers.
The newly remodeled Los Sombreros will feature a light-filled space with earthen-colored walls, a wood floor, and décor items like authentic Mexican artwork, fabrics, and paintings done by Tovar. The room seats 150 people with space for another 30 on its shaded patio.
