Cowboy Ciao Pastry Chef Country Velador Opening Sweet-Minded Retail Shop in Scottsdale
Pastry chef Country Velador, best-known for her inventive, top-notch desserts at Cowboy Ciao in Scottsdale, is teaming up with husband Sergio to open a new sweet shop.
Caramel Corn from Super Chunk Sweets & Treats
Based on the couple's handcrafted confections business (currently, you can find their products at places like Bodega, Pane Bianco, and The Farm at South Mountain), Super Chunk Sweets & Treats will open its first retail location at 7120 East 6th Avenue, next door to Cowboy Ciao, in Scottsdale, this fall.
What will it be like to have the Veladors' delectable goodies all in one place? In a word, dangerous.
Here's what sugar hounds can expect.
Positioned to be a kind of sweet grab-and-go, Super Chunk Sweets & Treats will offer decadent goodies like four varieties of gourmet caramel corn, duck fat toffee, honeycomb candies dipped in chocolate, cakes, pints of homemade ice cream, and the popular Mesquite Chocolate Chip Cookie, which recently appeared in National Geographic as one of "10 Chocolate Chip Cookies to Travel For."
Sergio and Country Velador
"It's an expansion of Super Chunk and what we've been doing at the farmers markets," Sergio Velador tells me of his new shop. "We've been thinking about doing this for a long time."
Velador goes on to say that the 800-square-foot Super Chunk will have a vintage feel with a retail outlet in the front that gives way to an open kitchen. He's hoping to open in September and most definitely before Halloween.
