Looks like Coup Des Tartes, the romantic French bistro in Phoenix, has turned what could have been the lamest landlord story of the year into one of new beginnings.

In June, owner Ron Pacioni issued a press release stating the 17-year-old restaurant was being forced out of its former historic home at 4626 North 16th Street by new landowners the Van Tuyl Group (an automotive consulting firm), who gave Coup Des Tartes 180 days to vacate the property so that the building could be torn down and the land used for overflow car dealership parking.

Although the Van Tuyl Group was not willing to honor the seven years remaining on Coup Des Tartes' lease, they did agree to an extension until January 31, 2014, a deadline Pacioni is hoping to hit to open his new location.

And the new space has a few surprises in store.

The new home of Coup Des Tartes will be at 1725 East Osborn Road, in a just-as-quaint 1922 red brick duplex complete with high-vaulted ceilings, hardwood floors, and a fireplace (sound familiar?). On the property's one-acre lot, Pacioni plans to construct a new Rendezvous Room for private parties and special events. The restaurant's home is just six blocks west of the new Bink's Midtown.

The biggest change to the oldest BYOB in Phoenix, though, might be the addition of a full-service bar, which will extend out onto a large, tree-covered patio.

"It is our full intention to allow people to still bring in their wine," Coup Des Tartes' Facebook page states. "We love the fact that people can bring in their own special bottle of wine."

Stay tuned for details.

This is great news, but how can CdT add a bar and still allow BYOB? My understanding has always been that AZ law is "either-or." A restaurant can apply for either a liquor license or a BYOB permit, but not both. Is there an exception?

The yard to the West of the main duplex is where the new Rendezvous Room is going to be building.

Thank you Javier. That is one of our most loved items.

We looked into that possibility but it wasn't financially releasable for us to move the building.

This new home used to be a doctor's office. I have always loved driving by it as it's got a great side yard.

If they are going to tear it down anyway, why didn't they let them just move the building?
