Okay, so technically, moderate beer consumption is good for your health. But let's not get focused too heavily on minutiae. It's almost the weekend and we need some more excuses to drink, drink, drink.
Scientists in Greece have found that drinking one pint of beer a day can lower the risk of heart disease. In a recent study, researchers from Harokopio University in Athens found that within a couple of hours of drinking one pint of beer, participants experienced improved blood flow to the heart as their arteries became more flexible. Previous studies have also shown that drinking a beer a day can lower the risk of heart attacks and strokes by 30 percent, according to Science World Report.
The study also tested the effects of vodka and non-alcoholic beer, and here's where we have some bad news for the hard-partying types and those don't drink booze. While all three showed some positive affects, alcoholic beer produced the best results.
The researchers believe the combination of alcohol and antioxidants could be the cause and that folate, a nutrient found in beer, may be involved. The vitamin can protect against cancer and prevent birth defects, kidney stones, coronary artery diseases, and gallstones.
"Beer acutely improves parameters of arterial function and structure in healthy non-smokers. This benefit seems to be mediated by the additive or synergistic effects of alcohol and antioxidants and merits further investigation," researchers concluded according to CouselandHeal.
