Arizona's local blend.

You might have heard about a new Arizona wine called Kindred. It's a four-barrel collaboration among some of the most notable vintners in the state: Arizona Stronghold Vineyards, Dos Cabezas Wineworks, Caduceus Cellars and Callaghan Vineyards. The result? "The wine is smoky and rich with red fruits and herbs . . . quite nice and different from any of our individual components," says Tim White of Arizona Stronghold.

The winemakers noted the collaboration that often happens in the beer industry and wanted to work together on a unique blend of their wines.

Cool. Now you want to know where you can get some, right?

According to White, the Kindred blend is 75% Cabernet Sauvignon and 25% Tempranillo. "Arizona Stronghold contributed a barrel of 2011 ASV 'Old Vine' Cabernet Sauvignon (Willcox), Maynard/Caduceus contributed a barrel of 2011 Bonita Springs Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon (Willcox), Kent/Callaghan Vineyards contributed a barrel of 2011 Buena Suerta Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon (Elgin) and Todd/Dos Cabezas contributed a barrel of 2011 Cimarron Vineyards Tempranillo (Willcox)."

There are only 100 cases (or 1,200 bottles) of Kindred and if you blinked and missed the discussion/tasting/party at FnB you might be wondering where you can get your lips on this truly local wine. The answer is -- not in Phoenix.

The wine retails for $50 a bottle and each of the parties involved gets 25 cases that will be sold exclusively at the Arizona Stronghold tasting room, Callaghan Vineyards tasting room, Dos Cabezas Wineworks tasting room, and Four-Eight Wineworks (Maynard's new wine co-op) that will open in Clarkdale, Arizona, in September.
