Looks like longtime Valley chef Eddie Matney may be in more hot water than anything he'll cook up at his five-year-old restaurant, Eddie's House, in Scottsdale.

The colorful, big-hearted chef, admired by many in the industry, has been arrested for, among other things, ABC 15 reports, possession of marijuana.

According to ABC 15, Scottsdale police spokesman Dave Pubins confirmed that Matney was taken into custody on Monday, May 20, after police found marijuana in his vehicle following a post-noontime stop near 68th Street and Camelback Road for a partially obscured license plate.

ABC 15 goes on to report that a police check "showed both Matney's registration and his driving privileges to be suspended," that the marijuana was found in the car prior to it being towed, and that Matney was arrested for possession of marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and driving on a suspended license.

According to ABC 15, Matney recently issued the following statement:

"I was pulled over for a traffic infraction last week. A very small amount of marijuana was found with fishing equipment. I don't have any further comment besides apologizing for the distraction this has caused."

And seriously....why Chow Bella are you posting this on Facebook, it has nothing to do with his culinary skills. I think I am going to have to "unlike" you now.

Its not the weed, we can debate all day if he would have had a medical card or not.  Its the driving on a suspended license, being a high profile person with a public image, that is the point here.

Percentage of chefs that smoke weed....gotta be around 90% right? Heard on radio that possession is a felony...can that be right? So dumb....no one cares about weed.

OOOOOHHH. Juicy, NOT!! New Times, you sunk to a new low. Amy's Baking Company was a bad entree you could at least bite into, however, this waste of an article is just a Whopper w/ cheese for the culinary challenged. Long live Eddie Matney!

I don't get it...is it because he's a chef "celebrity" that the news outlets feel the need to blast for such a tiny thing...and Channel 12 broke the news last night of which he's a big part of....I think that's just sad....the odds that it's not even his could be pretty high since it wasn't on his person, but in his car...and it's POT...sheesh, how progressive are we these days? Tell me, what is it with the sensational stupid news, why not provide true, bad guys and thought provoking news?

Wow, if I was in the marijuana business, I'd definitely be advertising in New Times. And if I were Chef Matney, I'd certainly start selling "Eddie's One Smokin' Chef" T-shirts at the restaurant right away, if only to help cover upcoming legal costs, of course. Support could certainly translate into sales, from the sound of things.

Why is this news?poor Mr Matney, persecuted for a nickel bag... Stop blasting folks for pot smoking, I thought the new times would be pro legalization... How bout you write about how sad it is that folks are still getting busted for grams of weed.

so whats the big deal? Is it because he doesn't have a card to buy his weed with? Now if he was cooking up a batch of Meth, that just might be news!

The vast majority of people busted with pot on the road are pulled over for a minor infraction (i.e., a partially obscured plate, overly dark window tint, a broken tail light) and then the cops find pot (cue Draconian punishment). Those popped with alcohol DUI's, on the other hand, are often pulled over for swerving or speeding.
