Outside Amy's Baking Company on its grand re-opening night, 5/21/13.
After all the drama since the Kitchen Nightmares season finale, Amy's Baking Company had a strict no-press policy for last night's grand re-opening event in Scottsdale. The only people who were allowed into the restaurant were guests who made reservations ahead of time.

We were able to capture some video outside on the sidewalk before security spotted us.

So, I ate at ABC's on Wednesday for the re-opening. I kind of flew in under the radar because I had made a reservation online but apparently it wasn't correct but they were nice enough to let me in anyway (there was nobody there). Upon going in, we sat and waited for someone to come by and greet us for around 5 minutes. I used to wait tables (10 years experience) and that would be an unacceptable wait time, usually our customers were to be greeted within 30 seconds of them sitting down. Waiting this long, I noticed one server on the floor, there were about 15 tables seated and she was the only one. She was very busy and never noticed us. A busser walked up to us and I was confused because I thought he was a server too so I gave him my order and he looked confused, so Samy comes over to us around 5 minutes after we put our drinks in with the wrong person and he came to verify our order. So we're at 10 minutes before we got our drinks. Finally a server notices us and we put in an order for an appetizer, Artichoke and Jalapeno dip. I was disappointed because it was a cold dip, but the flavor was pretty good although very very garlic-y. We sat with empty drinks and had told our busser we were ready to order dinner. Nobody came by. He checked back, wondering if we had ordered yet. We hadn't. Finally after a long, long wait our busser gives up and takes our order for us. Samy comes back to verify it. Then our server comes over to take our order. Look, after 10 years in the biz, this is ridiculous. Everything is chaos because Samy is too big of a control freak to see the bigger picture. Owners should come in once a week to make sure everything is okay, not screwing stuff up on the floor. I would pull my hair out as a server for him. So anyway, everything is taking awhile so my friend and I got out on the patio for a smoke. Had there been a more attentive wait staff I would have told someone where I was going, anyone could see us easily through the front window. Well we're outside and all of a sudden we hear Samy talking about a couple who walked without paying. We realized he means us. Well, we're assholes so we just kick back and watch the police (there to protect from haters and walkers) go looking for us. While they're looking for us, Samy comes out and says another table didn't pay, two girls, so they bring two girls out of the parking lot and they're saying, "We paid, we paid!" And they had. When we came back in we could hear Amy freaking out and yelling in the kitchen (not that yelling in kitchens is a rare thing in food service, but in her tiny open kitchen she should be a bit more conscientious).
We go back inside our burger comes out, we ordered the Blue Ribbon Burger just like Chef Ramsay had. This is my favorite burger, I order it everywhere I go. This burger sucked! Completely soggy bun, just like Chef Ramsay had said and not cooked right either. Finally we get a refill on drinks. I don't even want my burger, it's gross but I don't feel like heckling them or causing problems, I was just curious and my curiosity was quenched. As I looked around I saw many other tables wondering where the wait staff was; empty drinks, tables covered in old dishes, long, long waits for food, and the food wasn't worth waiting for. Not to say it was disgusting but it wasn't worth the wait!!!  We paid and secretly tipped the only person who actually tried to take care of us; our bus boy. When we left, we got out the door with Samy following us accusing us of stealing yet again! It was definitely a night to remember...Don't waste your money on bad people and bad food.

I just made a "modest proposal" on my blog (http://sparklepony.blogspot.com/2013/05/amys-baking-company-modest-proposal.html) that rather than trying to improve, Amy should embrace her reputation and turn the place into a "bad restaurant" theme restaurant, like Dick's Last Resort, but more extreme. They should stage screaming arguments, "fire" their staff members at the end of their shifts, serve intentionally bad pizza, etc. It would be like "bad dinner theater." It would be such a success! After all, the only reason people go there now is in the hope that there will be fireworks; why not give the people what they want?

Thank heavens I've never been there. They are toads that treat other people, employees, customers, press & anyone else who doesn't kiss their A#*es like trash. Shame on them - they'll get no sympathy or patronage from me.

Is that guy wearing a Crazy Amy tank top?

That company is such a joke. Give me a break. Real, good (large emphasis on GOOD) restaurant owners don't need a PR guy to come in, they know what's important, and that's the customer. If the customer isn't happy, you make them happy. I hope to see the announcement that they have closed their doors soon!

When Sammy gets deported to Israel (kicking and screaming) good luck to him when he tries the same moves in Tel Aviv, Haifa or Jerusalem.

@peteykins   if they followed your idea, they would create a "theme" restaurant with a unique theme that nobody else is doing (that i know of) without have to do major remodeling or investment, and pull the money in hand over fist. the advertising is already done through their previous actions. good idea. they should have hired you instead of the people they did for their P.R. the more negative feedback they got would only enhance the theme too
