Amy's Baking Company Shit Show Continues: Now With Grand Re-Opening Press Release

Categories: News

Seemingly moments after most of us were making Amy Bouzaglo's cat impersonation ("Meow, meow, meow -- meow, meow!"), uttered on last Friday's season finale of Gordon Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares, the ringtone on our cell phones, the Internet decided to blow up, bonkers-style.

Following the airing of the show, in which Ramsay, for the first time in the show's history, walked out of the restaurant after declaring Amy, who runs Amy's Baking Company with husband Samy, a "lost cause" in addition to revealing several other insights (Samy taking his servers tips being one of the biggest) the restaurant's Yelp, Facebook, and Twitter pages exploded with angry comments.

The Bouzaglos went back to their old ways of verbally assaulting their critics on their social media accounts (they have since stated these accounts have been hacked), which soon caught the attention of everyone from Reddit to the Huffington Post, Forbes, and The Consumerist. Even spiky-haired chef Guy Fieri couldn't help but chime in about the meltdown on Wednesday's Today show.

And now, better late to the shit show than never, comes the Johnnie Cochran of public relations, Jason Rose. A partner of the Scottsdale public relations firm, Rose+Moser+Allyn Public & Online Relations, Rose is best known for the politically fueled Stingray Sushi ads, getting Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio to shill for Pink Taco, and being fired by Special Olympics for comparing "knucklehead" to someone with special needs.

Rose, whose (surprise) new clients are the Bouzaglos, sent out a press release about Amy's Baking Company on Wednesday. Via his Twitter account, Rose has said the restaurant's grand opening on Tuesday, May 21, has been sold out and that Baptist minister and political and civil rights activist Jarrett Maupin, quoted by New Times writer Stephen Lemons as being "the boy-wonder of PHX politics," will emcee the proceeding press conference.

"OTHER SIDE OF AMY'S BAKING COMPANY CONTROVERSY IN SCOTTSDALE TO SOON BE TOLD

(SCOTTSDALE, AZ.) Amy's Baking Company will host a Grand Re-Opening on Tuesday night, May 21, following unflattering portrayals on national television.

Customers will be able to decide who is correct: a famous celebrity chef or the marketplace that has supported the small, locally-owned business for six years.

When re-opened, a portion of proceeds will benefit a charity organized to bring awareness to cyber bullying.

Seating is limited. Reservations may be made by emailing [event is sold out].

Diners will also have the opportunity to meet and judge for themselves the character of owners Amy and Samy Bouzaglo, who have devoted their lives to and earn their living from their small restaurant. The Bouzaglos have been married for 10 years, after Samy emigrated from Israel.

The owners will likely be holding a press conference before the Grand Re-Opening to answer falsehoods about their business depicted on a reality television show, including assertions that the restaurant confiscates tips from servers.

In fact, wait staff is paid $8-$14 per hour, two and half to nearly five times the standard hourly wage for servers.

Questions will also be answered about what happened to their Facebook page.

Amy's Baking Company was recently featured on the hit PBS show "Check Please" and has received A+ reports from CBS 5 for kitchen preparedness.

"We are very upset by what has taken place, apologize about the acrimony that has ensued but now must fight back to save our business. We hope and believe much good can result from what has transpired. We ask the public to keep an open mind as we begin to tell our side of the story," Samy Bouzaglo said."

Amy didn't get out of jail til 09, so how is it she has been there for 6 years? The show was recorded last year, so by my count that is only 3 years.

The 1,000 people who reserved a seat at the "Re-Opening" should be ashamed of themselves. You are encouraging their bad behavior as well as the terrible treatment of employees and customers. I realize to many it is similar to attending a circus or oddity show, however with their twisted ideals I'm sure they will take it as an affirmation that they are true "chefs".

Traditionally when businesses show unfair practices the public generally boycotts them. They stole the wait staff's tips; isn't that enough to demonstrate the lack of concern for their employees not to mention state laws.

If you do try dining at Amy's you might want to go prepared.

1. Eat a full meal before you go. The wait will be long and the food will be bad.

2. Write down a few phone numbers of people you can call collect because cells phones are not allow in jail.

3. Be sure to have the name of a reputable Bail Bond Agent in case you need to post bail from jail.

4. Hire personal security if you do indeed enter into an altercation with Samy -- remember he IS THE GANGSTA, and "you do not want to F---- with him".

That they are donating the proceeds of the 'grand reopening' to a [still unnamed] anti-cyberbullying charity shows the depth of their abject hypocrisy.  How deep does their blind denial run?

Last week's "hacked" rants weren't the only time that they've gone into attack mode.  These two are clearly in the WRONG business.

Amy thought that just by opening a bag of cat food and feeding her 3 " boys " (cats ) is all it took to be a " chef "

Was Sammy a gangster in The State Of Israel or did he become a professional gangster once he immigrated to the USA.

Did Sammy report to the IRS all the tips he stole from the employees as business income? I see an audit going back 5 years in their future.

Jason Rose cements my opinion that assholes flock together. Even if the Bouzaglos came up with the best food on the planet, I wouldn't eat anything they served because it's contaminated by worldclass arrogance and nastiness. Maybe she learned how to cook (sic) when she was in prison for a year.

Actually, the way the federal law works is that if you are going to pay tipped servers less than the federally mandated minimum wage, tips must make up at least the gap between the hourly wage and the hourly minimum. Experienced waitstaff in a place with normal turnover (which wouldn't be Amy's, because it was on KN) should take home at least $15 an hour after tipout (to the bussers and bartenders, NOT the management).

$8-$14 is two and a half to five times the standard hourly wage for servers?  The minimum wage is Arizona is currently $7.80.  Therefore, you are paying a mere 20 cents above minimum wage.  The reason your hourly rate is higher than standard hourly rates for servers is because usually servers are entitled to their tips.  This allows employers to pay them at a lower hourly rate.  You do not allow servers to keep their tips.  So, make no mistake, you are paying them barely above the minimum wage.

Okay 24hrs later yeah right the food sucks thats a period point blank. Im the only one that will tell her GTFO and him, SHUT YOUR MOUTH OR ILL PUNCH YOU IN THE NOSE. Why because I have balls and food isnt a zero sum game for me, its just part of my monopoly boardd. Everyone NEEDS to be over the burners, Ill choose too. Got a summer menu ready to go.

Its amazing that the reservations were sold out before the press release was even issued.  I wonder who was able to get those reservations - family and close friends, maybe? - and what their reviews are going to be like.  Oh, and they aren't definitely having a press conference, only "likely" having a press conference, which in itself is very odd language for a press release.

Me either, it's embarassing. I have driven past there many times and wondered how the food was. I will never visit just because of their behavior, how toxic!

It's so amazing to me that they are taking zero accountability and choose to be on the defensive. They could have turned this around with an honest response, like "Hey, we are sorry that we freaked out on Facebook, but we didn't know how to respond to the criticism that we were getting - why not not come in on (whatever date) and enjoy a free dessert and let us reintroduce ourselves." Instead they choose to be confrontational  - Mr. Ramsey is wrong, the haters are wrong, etc, etc. I am hoping they can hold up a cheerful facade at this grand reopening. Knowing their history, it's difficult to say that they will be able to.

Much appreciated. Not knowing the area (I'm in California), I just published a blog post that quoted from Rose's web site (the charity event for the Parsons, etc.). Now I've just written a second blog post encouraging people to read your post.

"and has received A+ reports from CBS 5 for kitchen preparedness." Why is that a thing? Yes, you're ready for customers but if your product is horrible should I give a damn you're really really ready?

@MelonHead The unnamed anti-cyberbullying charity they are donating to is their pockets, just like they pocket their wait staff tips.

The "two and a half to five times" is a reference to the minimum hourly wage for Tipped employees, which is currently $2.13 Federally
