Catch the show this Sunday at Gertrude's
April's known for showers and the phrase covers more than just rain. It's also a great month to catch a starry show in the sky, namely, the Lyrid meteor shower.

You'll be able to see the shower on Sunday night (and into Monday morning) and Gertrude's at the Desert Botanical Garden is inviting guests to enjoy the show from their patio.

On Sunday, April 21, from 5 to 9 p.m. the garden-inspired restaurant will offer their regular dinner service, with the added benefit of a front-row seat for the meteor shower.

From 6 to 10 p.m. Kenton Knepper will also play the acoustic Tibetan Bowls.

Astronomers say the annual Lyrid meteor shower should reach its peak between 10 p.m. and midnight on Sunday, although the best time for viewing will probably be just before dawn on Monday. Because of the bightness of the moon, you might be able to catch 10 to 20 meteors per hour though they say there can be bursts of up to 100 an hour.

The menu at Gertrude's includes local ingredients from farmers and artisans around the Valley -- think burrata and strawberry, red chile short rib with Crow's Dairy goat sour cream, and Niman lamb loin with house cured "lambcetta."

Guests can use Open Table or call Gertrude's to make a reservation. For more information visit the Gertrude's website or Facebook.
