4th Annual Arizona Barbecue Festival

On Saturday, April 20, everyone is invited to Salt River Fields to get smoked out. From 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., over 25 pitmasters from around the state will be serving smoked meats like brisket, ribs, pulled pork, chicken, and all kinds of shanks. Participating restaurants include Pork on a Fork and Tom's BBQ/Pig Rig, and the bars will be run by LTB Concepts (you know them as chef Aaron May's restaurants). Other festival attractions are the Flavored Vodka Tent with over 100 selections, cooking demonstrations, live music, a kids' zone, the VIP Yard with a shaded bar, and the Redneck Arena with games like bobbing for pigs' feet, watermelon seed spitting, and beer pong. General admission is $12, VIP tickets are $60 in advance, and the vodka tasting is an additional $20. Kids 12 and under get in for free.

Four Peaks Fest

Local brewery Four Peaks is celebrating its sweet 16 on Saturday, April 20, at its new tasting room in Tempe. Rather than throwing an elaborate bash that comes with a high price tag, the brewery is putting on an old fashioned street party. Admission and parking are free, as is the live music from local bands. Four Peaks will be serving four specialty beers along with the regular selection of favorites like Kilt Lifter, and food trucks like Luncha Libre and Satay Hut will be on hand to provide local eats. The Four Peaks Fest begins at noon and ends at 9 p.m.

Thanks Chow Bella for including the Alternative Brewing Methods coffee class on your list. I wanted to let anyone interested know that we are donating $10 from each ticket to The One Fund created to help those affected by the Boston explosions this week. Perry Chop was just in Boston for the Specialty Coffee expo and left just before the tragedy. It's our way of helping the community. Thanks again!

Hi Luis, we're continuing to have sporadic technical difficulties with our blog pages opening on some web browsers. We're working on fixing the issue and hope to have it fixed ASAP. Thanks for your patience.
