West Valley residents have lost the place to score deep-fried franks as well as Oreos and Twinkies. Ivy League Dogs in Goodyear is shuttering.

Opened in spring of 2010, Ivy League Dogs came courtesy of Derek Pyle, who named the place after his Chihuahua-Jack Russell mix pup and operated the hot dog joint with his wife, Kristina.

Inviting customers to "come on down and taste why our dogs are in a league of their own," the Pyle's served up nine different deep-fried franks ranging from bratwurst, mozzarella garlic sausage, and even vegetarian options with toppings like sauerkraut, jalapeños, bacon, and fried onions.

A post on Ivy League's Facebook page had this to say about the closing:

"**WE HAVE PERMANTLY CLOSED IVY LEAGUE DOGS**

To our friends of Ivy League Dogs,

"Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing, some people have entertained angels without knowing it." Hebrews 13:2

We know for a fact we have entertained angels during our nearly 3 years of serving food to our customers. We have been blessed to have been included in customer's weddings, births, and new beginnings. We have been touched and honored to have prayed and hugged with those who have lost loved ones and have shared that news with us.
Since God led us to open Ivy League, our faith in humanity has been restored. We have learned what having faith in God is about and that He is in control. He already knows what is ahead for us and we anxiously await His direction.

Again, THANK YOU to all our "angels" for your support, loyalty, love, and kindness you have shown us. We have been blessed, my you all be too. Sincerely, Derek and Kristina, and of course, Ivy."

What? You mean crappy food and lousy service won't fly, even in Goodyear?  I had the misfortune of stumbling upon this hole last March before the Reds spring training opener.  Arrived about 90 minutes before gametime, barely made it.  For a friggin' grease dog.  As least my buddies and I could pass the time playing "Spot the Health Code Violation"

I will miss that heart-stopping Big Juan.

Shame. How many restaurants have we lost.

The owners really put their heart into that place and I'm sad to see it go.
