Do Your Cakes Look as Incredible as They Taste? Enter the 2013 Scottsdale Culinary Festival's Take the Cake Competition
The holidays are the perfect time of year to practice pastry making, decorating, and of course eating. After all the work you put into wowing your family and friends with edible art, what do you do with your newly honed skills? Consider putting your frosting and fondant wielding chops to good use by entering the Take the Cake Decorating Competition, a new event for the 2013 Scottsdale Culinary Festival. The competition will take place on Sunday, April 14, during the Wine Country Brunch, which begins at 11 a.m. and goes until 2 p.m. at the Scottsdale Resort & Conference Center. But keep reading -- if you want to enter, you've got to sign up much, much sooner.
Susie's Victorian Cakes / CakesUnique Which of these two culturally inspired creations do you think would take the cake?
Interested parties are invited by Scottsdale League for the Arts to submit up to two cakes for a chance to win the top prize in one of three categories: professional cake artists and pastry chefs, high school students, and college and culinary art students. All participants will receive a 15% discount to ABC Cake Decorating Supplies and will have their cakes photographed by Heather Gill Photography. In addition, baking professionals and college and culinary students will get a one-year subscription to Dessert Professional Magazine. All that and entry is absolutely free.
The entries will be judged by top pastry chefs in the area, including executive pastry chefs Lance Whipple of the Four Seasons Resort Scottsdale at Troon North and Roy Pell of The Phoenician. Winning cakes will be chosen based on originality, creativity, artistic value, difficulty of execution, overall appearance, and interpretation of the theme -- international culture. That leaves it open to a wide range of influences from cuisine, traditions, and travel to lifestyle, music, and art.
Ready to register? Contact email@example.com for the entry form and for more information. All submissions must be received by Thursday, January 31. That leaves just over a month to get inspired by something global and plan your unbeatable design.
