Darden Restaurants, Inc., the same company who owns and operates Red Lobster, Olive Garden, The Capital Grille, Seasons 52, and Eddie V's, is playing Santa this year in the form of steakhouse chain, LongHorn.

Today, the casual American steakhouse that operates more than 400 locations in 38 states, will open a 6,300-square-foot restaurant at 1434 South Alma School Road in Mesa. This marks the second time the steakhouse chain has tried to gain an Arizona foothold. Its last attempt, a LongHorn Steakhouse location in Chandler, closed in 2011.

And there are plans for more.

Over the next two years, LongHorn Steakhouse plans to open four to six more locations. Confirmed are one in Phoenix, at 4585 East Cactus Road (Tatum Boulevard and Cactus) and, according to the Phoenix Business Journal, one in Chandler, at 54th Street and Ray Road.

(Side note: Chop Chandler, the locally owned steakhouse from Tom Kaufman and Spike Lawrence, who also own The Sushi Room and The Living Room, is set to open in the next few weeks.)

LongHorn Steakhouse features grilled steaks like the Porterhouse for Two (a 30-ounce New York strip and filet all in one) and a signature Bone-In Outlaw Ribeye in addition to other items such as seafood, chicken, and ribs.

While Darden's smaller higher end restaurants are better( but not great), Longhorn, Olive Garden & Red Lobster are just dreadful.
