As we enter the new year, I can't think of anything I'd rather have (aside from great health for me and my family) than a little luck and prosperity. Luckily, manifesting these traits is easy peasy (sorry, had to do it) with the help of some black eyed peas (NOT the music).

The tradition of eating black eyed peas on New Year's Day to ensure prosperity and good luck goes back about 300 hundred years. If you're not crazy about black eyed peas, fear not. Thanks to Pinterest, we're no longer bound to a giant pot of boring beans - one of these unique recipes is bound to please your senses. Be sure to make plenty, as many believe you need to eat 365 beans to ensure you're covered for each day of the year.

I'm not taking any chances with my luck and prosperity this year (or any other year) so I'm going to opt for this Tex Mex Black Eyed Pea Casserole - minus the bacon and a little less cheese (crazy, I know).

The Traditional dish, Hoppin John, is just as unique as these!?!

I mean, here's a recipe from West Africa which was brought to America by the slaves and it was adopted by their owners.  It's as uniquely American as any story about some Spainards who came over and killed a bunch of native peoples and took over their lands. Just another story about the genocidal nature of the Europeans who came to this country in the 1500s and decided to act like assholes.
