Getting Our Just Desserts
Many of last year's participants are back again this year.
Quick, name five women chefs in the Valley.

If that exercise proved difficult it may be because, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, fewer than 15 percent of professional chefs and head cooks in the country are women.

But from 2 to 5 p.m., Saturday, November 10, at the Art Institute of Phoenix, more than two dozen women chefs in kitchens throughout Arizona are setting out to change that statistic and (pretty much) the Valley's culinary scene at Getting Our Just Desserts (GOJD).

Featuring top women chefs such as Amy Binkley (Binkley's, Cafe Bink), Tracy Dempsey (Tracy Dempsey Originals), and Faith Wipperman-Woodruff (Roka Akor) as well as food truck mavens Margita Webb (Hey Joe!), Tonya Saidi (Mamma Toledo's Pies), and Beatrice "Bee" Bullock (BuzznBeez Good Food Truck), this year's GOJD will offer guests tastings, demonstrations, and a chance to support the female culinary scene in the Valley.

General admission tickets to Getting Our Just Desserts are $35 (VIP tickets are $75) and include sweet and savory tastings, cooking demonstrations, and workshops. Tickets can be purchased through the Blacktie Arizona website using the event code justdesserts12.

For more details, go to the GOJD Facebook page.

Getting Our Just Desserts benefits the Careers through Culinary Arts Program (C-CAP), a national scholarship program for high school culinary students.
