Last month, we were excited to report that Chow Bella won best opinion blog from the Arizona Press Club. Now results are starting to come in from some national writing contests -- and there's cause for more celebration.

Food critic Laura Hahnefeld is a finalist in the Association of Food Journalists' "food essay" category for her (literally, at times) painfully entertaining piece, "My Year of Eating Dangerously," which headlined New Times' 2011 Resolution Guide. Here's the complete list of finalists.

Hahnefeld's essay was also included in the collection Best Food Writing of 2011.

And Chow Bella is a finalist in the "staff blog" category of the Association of Alternative Newsweeklies' annual contest, for an entry including posts by Hahnefeld, Zach Fowle, Kim Porter, Dominique Chatterjee and Jamie Peachey/Amy Silverman. A complete list of finalists is here.

The alternative newsweeklies will announce winners June 9; the food journalists are waiting til September.

Follow Chow Bella on Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest.
