New location coming, same good lookin' chicken and waffles.

Larry White Jr. (better known as Lo-Lo) has big plans for the original Lo-Lo's Chicken & Waffles, the hugely successful business he opened in a tiny house in downtown Phoenix 10 years ago. By Labor Day weekend, the fried chicken king will have moved the original operation to a larger building next door (1220 S. Central Avenue), which he is in the process of renovating.

The original location will remain open until the new one is up and running.

The original.

White says the new location will feature concrete floors, red brick walls and a small stage, where customers will be treated to live jazz and live gospel. A separate banquet room and a private VIP room are also in the works, the latter featuring a glass wall overlooking the activity in the kitchen.

Famous for his cornbread and red velvet cake, White is also planning a large bakery for the new building. Customers will be able to watch cakes being iced and pies (a new offering) coming out of the oven.

But that's not all.

The problem with both Lolo's and Mrs. White restaurants are the servers keep talking NON-STOP to each other.  And it's loud...

The Scottsdale location is garbage.  Chicken is almost always dry and stringly like it's been sitting under a heat lamp, the food tastes different, and the service sucks - yet the Scottsdale crowd loves it because they can say they're eating at LoLo's without having to head to Central Phoenix.  I'm hoping that this new location next door can keep things together.

So this will be like eating at Roscoe's in California? Great... Stick to the basics! Good food served with great service. No need for the glitz and glamour...

I understand why he needs a bigger place.

Everytime I go in its filled wall to wall with obesity.

Food will still be great for hungover mornings.

With more room to walk.

Larry's got it right - on the Money!  Thank you Mrs. White for helping to create this wonderful man.  He's got the dedication and sticktoitness one needs to succeed in business.  I hear Larry is going to have live music performances at the expanded location on Yuma and Central, is that true?

Wow, really? That has never been my experience, and I eat at the Scottsdale Lo-Lo's about once a month. I do love the little downtown one though. So much character.
