Three Things to Eat, Drink, and Bake This Weekend -- The Easter Edition

Happy Good Friday, Happy Easter, Happy Passover, or just plain ol' Happy Friday!

For the first time in thirty years, my mother has decided not to cook Easter dinner for her family, but instead she and my dad are going to Tucson to see their favorite band, Calexico. Damn her for being so awesome. Oh well, that just gives me more time to check out the great food and drinks around town.

Here's what's on my plate for this beautiful Easter/Passover weekend.

Eat This: Leg of Lamb from Bryan's Black Mountain Barbecue -- Celebrate Easter early with a trip out to Cave Creek for one of Chef Bryan Dooley's smoked lamb drumsticks. Each juicy leg of lamb is given the royal treatment with a rub down of Bryan's special seasonings, a healthy dose of ginger, and a splash of beer -- then the legs are smoked with hickory until they are just right and finished off with Bryan's tangy barbecue sauce. Bryan's will be closed on Sunday, so be sure to make the trek on Saturday. You can thank me later.

Drink This: Egg Cream from MacAlpine's Soda Fountain -- There aren't actually any eggs in this frothy chocolate drink but it sounds Easter-y! I am a big fan of the MacAlpine egg cream and this weekend, I'll be pulling up a barstool at the classic soda shop and enjoying one of these decandent chocolate treats. The folks at MacAlpine's make their own chocolate sauce and use lots of real cream so you know it's going to be better than any other egg cream out there.

Bake This: Easter Egg Bread -- This beautiful bread would make the prefect centerpiece for your Easter table. The eggs are baked right into the layers of this easy-to-make bread. Or you can hard boil the eggs first and then stick them into the dough and bake away. Either way, it's going to be pretty and that's what really matters, right?
