Now here's a peculiar pair.

Yesterday, Nation's Restaurant News reported that P.F. Chang's China Bistro Inc., the Scottsdale-based company responsible for serving up mediocre Chinese fare at over 200 of its casual-dining locations and nearly 175 of its Pei Wei Asian Diners, has agreed to acquire a 51-percent majority interest in True Food Kitchen, the good-for-you eatery concept with two locations in the Valley and two in California from Arizona-based Fox Restaurant Concepts.

So is there a True Food/Dr. Andrew Weil-approved P.F. Chang's Pork Lo Mein in the future? After all, the dish, at a whopping 1,820 calories, was rated as one of The Worst 20 Foods in America by Men's Health.

Nation's Restaurant News reports Rick Federico, P.F. Chang's chief executive and chairman, as saying the operations and development of True Food would remain with Fox Restaurant Concepts -- which founder and chief executive Sam Fox adds, "We have formed a great relationship with the P.F. Chang's management team and are extremely pleased by their commitment to continue our partnership."

Fox likes the partnership, P.F. Chang's likes True Food's strong sales results, and both like the money. Maybe it's not such an odd match-up after all.

It's a business deal; they're unlikely to influence each other's menu.
