Ten Favorite Downtown Phoenix Restaurants for Late Night Dining

Categories: Top Lists

We've all been there: drunk and hungry, only to find most of the local food joints are closed. As a remedy to this dire situation, we've done our best to find some downtown Phoenix spots where you can still grab a bite after most of the other restaurants have closed their kitchens. Let us know if we missed any gems.

Seamus McCaffrey's Irish Pub & Restaurant
10. Seamus McCaffrey's Irish Pub & Restaurant

Hours: Seamus McCaffrey's is open until 2 a.m. every night and serves food until midnight.

We're told this is where the real, hardcore old-timers go to drink. But you can get some traditional Irish eats too. Try the Shepherd's Pie or the crunchy-fried fish and chips. We go back for the corned beef and cabbage, served with boiled potatoes just like Gramma O'Hara used to make.

9. The Turf Pub and Restaurant

Hours: Turf is open until 2 a.m. every night and serves food until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.

The old timers might have stools named after them at Seamus McCaffery's, but you can get some great food at Turf too. The loaded potato skins and chicken Philly are two of my personal favorites. Last I looked they didn't have the chicken Philly on the menu, but just ask for it, and don't forget the jalapenos.

carly's bistro 200x200.jpg
Carly's Bistro
8. Carly's Bistro

Hours: 11 a.m. - 12 a.m. Monday-Wednesday, 11 a.m. - 2 a.m. Thursday & Friday, 10 a.m. - 2 a.m. Saturday, and 10 a.m. - 12 a.m. Sunday.

Carly's offers mainly lighter fare like appetizers including spinach artichoke dip, but you can also get some great, hot sandwiches including the turkey melt and reuben.

The roosevelt tavern 200x200.jpg
The Roosevelt Tavern
7. The Roosevelt Tavern

Hours: Sunday,Tuesday,Wednesday,Thursday 5 p.m. - 12 a.m., Friday and Saturday 5 p.m. - 2 a.m.

Roosevelt Tavern is the place to go for traditional bar food. Some of our favorites that you can find on the menu include gourmet hot dogs, an amazing hot pretzel with two kinds of mustard, homemade dips with chips, and wonderful tomato soup with a crispy grilled cheese. But keep in mind the kitchen closes at 11 p.m., so you better get your food early.

Rose & Crown
6. Rose & Crown Pub

Hours: Monday - Saturday 11 a.m. - 2 a.m., Sunday 10 a.m. - 2 a.m.

You can get more than great beer at Rose & Crown. Being directly across the parking lot from Pizzeria Bianco has made it to step up its food game. You can find some traditional British pub food like the Poutines, (which one reader pointed out actually originated in Quebec) deep fried potato chips smothered in cheese and brown gravy. There are also plenty of burgers and entrees to choose from. Food in served until 10 p.m. on the weekdays and midnight on the weekends.

Hey, author of this Article.  you stated that food "soaks up alcohol" (which it doesn't) - it slows the absorption of the alcohol through the stomach, IF you eat while drinking - but if you've already drunk enough to put you over the limit, eating after that will not make you less sober.

A person has to be ignorant to drive drunk and I think it's a GOOD IDEA to put as many ignorant people in prison for DUI as possible.

I suggest that you know how much alcohol puts you over the limit and
then limit yourself to that number of drinks in the determined time
period.

Go to the following site to learn how to calculate your blood alcohol level.

There is a glaring lack of a true all-night diner in this downtown. You would think with a college campus and assorted hipster/bar places, this would finally happen. The missing link.

"You can find some traditional British pub food like the Poutines which are deep fried potato chips smothered in cheese and brown gravy."

With apologies for the pedantry, wrong country. Poutine is Quebecoise, not British, hence the etymologically French name.

The author wasn't referring to driving whatsoever. When you've been drinking, eating at the end of the night makes you feel better. The point of the article is about places that are open late, regardless of what your reasons for wanting to eat at that time may be. Congrats for completely missing the point.

You're an expert tool. Pointing out what you did is completely unnecessary. Food DOES soak up alcohol in the stomach. Granted, food won't magically make the alcohol disappear from your system, but it sure as hell makes things better inside your stomach. That's what this article is about. And then you had to come in with some babble like that.

Thanks for the heads-up. I'll make an update.

Jerry's Restaurant at Thomas and 24th street isn't exactly downtown, I suppose, but it's pretty darn close as long as you aren't walking.

Hey Dominic,

Thanks for the clarification. I'll add a note.
