Hey Vegans: How about a Test-Tube Hamburger?

What we imagine a test-tube hamburger looks like.

Over the weekend, a Dutch scientist announced he's found a way to mimic the creation of meat in a test-tube -- with the goal of eliminating the entire meat production industry.

He says the "meat," made of cow stem cells, will be ready for prime time by this fall.

We're not sure which would be grosser -- a test-tube hamburger or some of the faux meats we've seen (and tasted) shaped from soy products.

We saw the test-tube story on discovery.com.

We also found out what vegans think of the whole thing.

Shockingly (to us, anyway) they like it!

The Telegraph in London reports that PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) has actually offered a $1 million prize for the first person/organization to create meat this way and sell it on an industrial scale.

One catch: To win the PETA prize, the meat has to be chicken.

PeTA != vegans.

Vegans pride themselves on surviving without the exploitation of animals in any form - harvesting stem cells is exploitation.
