If you're a fan of Iruña, restaurateur Aaron May's lounge-worthy spot of classic Spanish tapas in Old Town Scottsdale, your last chance to dine will be today and Saturday.

May's closing Iruña, which opened in May of 2010, to make way for a new concept set to open in early March of this year. Called Praying Monk Tap and Kitchen, May's new eatery will feature seasonal offerings of locally sourced food -- from small bites to full plates -- a wide selection of craft beer, wines and artisanal spirits, and a renovated interior and patio.

Stay tuned for details.

Spelling really does count. Restaurateur, no "n" as there is in "restaurant." And "artisanal" as in "artisan." Sloppy, sloppy, sloppy.

What we see here next shouldn't be far-removed from May's Lodge concept, which seems to be thriving. Say what you will about hot new concepts and what's next. What works now are cheap drinks and menu value perception priced in the ten dollar range.
Remember circa 2006, three-course menus and the $7 well drink? Sorry, but the new standard is $3-$4 for the house pour and a single dish and out the door.

I think six months ago, or even a year ago, people were watching every cent they spent on dining out, but lately I've observed people slowly going back to the old days of just spending on what they want.
