Chef Silvana Salcido Esparza to Open Barrio Queen Tequileria Before Year's End: Here's a Sneak Peek

Barrio Queen's decor (still being completed) comes courtesy of Esparza herself.
Since she announced her two new restaurant concepts in June -- the "Euro-Mexican" restaurant called Silvana and the more casual Barrio Queen Tequileria -- the chef and owner of Barrio Café, Silvana Salcido Esparza, has been busy, indeed.

After months of redecorating, menu planning, and honing the concept, it looks like Barrio Queen Tequileria will open before the year's end. It has to -- Esparza's already announced its New Year's Eve party complete with a DJ spinning Cumbia beats (a music genre popular across Latin America), late-night menudo, and a 3 a.m. closing time.

Barrio Queen Tequileria will sit alongside Silvana in the SouthBridge space in Old Town Scottsdale that previously housed Metro Brasserie. The casual eatery and good times spot will serve an all-day breakfast, lunch, dinner, late dinner (until midnight Monday through Thursday and until 3 a.m. Friday and Saturday), menudo on the weekends, and include a to-go window.

And, as expected, Esparza's got some additional surprises up her chef's sleeve.

Along with a menu of goodies like tacos and tortas, Esparza is also planning a panaderia (bakery) inside Barrio Queen featuring Mexican bread, pastries, and savory empanadas. She'll also be serving up sweet treats like house made Mexican ice cream, paletas (ice pops made from fresh fruit), and Mexican candy.

A small retail section will include Barrio Queen t-shirts, a selection of artisan Mexican cheeses, and hard-to find Mexican ingredients.

Most ambitious is the tequileria portion of Barrio Queen, which will include over 350 kinds of tequila. Also on tap: Mexican beers in bottles and drafts, Sotol, Bacanora and Mezcal ,as well as wines from Mexico, and an extensive margarita list.

In the works are DJs on the weekends and a custom lowrider bike for local deliveries.

Esparza, a taste maker in food as well as in interiors, led the redesign efforts for Barrio Queen herself which include an upbeat, contemporary color palette, reclaimed furniture, and artwork by local artists Angel Diaz, Thomas "Breeze" Marcus, Lalo Cota, and Gennaro Garcia.

Hungry yet? Stay tuned for Esparza's grand opening announcement.

Congrats Chef, this place looks amazing!

If I may, I just hope the service doesn't take a downward turn like Barrio Cafe has in recent years. Best wishes.
