37: Sweet and Sour Corn Cakes from Thai Elephant

Creamy red curry, spicy pad thai, and nutty satay chicken are well and good, but sometimes we crave something just a little different when we're out for Thai food. Thai Elephant anticipates our at times contradictory desires, and offers some excellent appetizers. That way we can have our pad thai and try something new too! The sweet and sour corn cakes are one of the most interesting appetizers we've had on the menu, and bonus, they taste mighty fine dipped in the panang curry.

Snag a Mekong and cola or a frosty Singha beer to accompany your order of sweet and sour corn cakes. The sweet cakes are rolled thin, dipped in tasty batter, and gently fried to golden perfection. There's just a hint of sweet and sour flavor in the cakes, which is also highlighted in the sauce, a salty sweet concoction. And don't forget, these corn cakes are tasty dipped in the spicy, tamarind remnants of a pad thai, or the mildly spiced panang curry.
