Baguette Vending Machine Installed in -- Where Else? -- France

Categories: Fun

Only in France will you find the public's demand for a freshly baked baguette be so fierce that one of the 33,000 bakeries took advantage of the annual August holiday, where most will close up shop, to install a baguette vending machine.

Jean-Louis Hecht's wife was worried that they would never get any peace living above their bakery since many of their shop's patrons would knock on the door and request baguettes after they'd already closed up shop. Two years ago they got the idea to create a dispenser to deliver freshly baked bread 24/7.

Hecht prepares par baked loaves and then upon order, they are cooked and delivered.

There has been some doubt as to machine's ability to consistently deliver quality bread that holds up to France's bread law requiring the dough to contain no preservatives.

Hecht is not deterred, he envisions a future similar to how we've adjusted to using ATMs, instead of tellers. Hecht calls it "the bakery of tomorrow."

We call it carbs with no witnesses.

I don't get it - what's to stop a ne'er-do-well from taking a dook in the dispenser? Or Puking in it...who'd want the baguette then?
