$10 Lunch at Ginger China Bistro

Ginger China Bistro in north Glendale is a solid choice for a (sort of) quick, (sort of) inexpensive meal.From refreshing starters like Hong Kong Won Ton Noodle Soup ($5.95) to exclusive dishes like Ginger Sesame Noodles and Tofu Puffs ($8.95), most everything on the menu is under ten dollars and large enough to share, though drinks cost extra.
The cozy, modern eatery serves classic Chinese dishes (think Egg Foo Young or Beef and Broccoli) but they also provide a menu of their own eclectic plates, like Coconut Curry Chicken with Potatoes and Garlic Chili Shrimp with Broadway Noodles.
We ordered the Combination Egg Foo Young and Combination Fried Rice. The rice arrived on a massive white plate peppered with huge chunks of hard-boiled egg and crispy green onions. Unlike most mounds of fried rice, it was neither too hot to eat nor heavy and greasy.

What we liked best: the service was friendly and attentive and the food tasted fresh. We went over our $10 budget with the addition of a glass of iced tea, but we were incredibly full and had enough to bring home for a mid-afternoon snack. Next time we're trying the Crispy Citrus Mandarin Beef or the tempting Moo Shu Pork Crepes.
