Lobster Ice Cream Washes Up (for the First Time?) on the Arizona Desert
So the Pink Spot, the all-day breakfast, coffee, and scoop joint in Phoenix, is carrying lobster ice cream through the month of July. And before you think some Valley schemester is forcing mutant scorpions from the canal into an icy dessert, this frozen crustacean creation comes by way of Ben & Bill's Chocolate Emporium in Bar Harbor, Maine. Since its debut, Ben & Bill's lobster ice cream has been featured on the Food Network's Roker on the Road, Road Tested, and on The Today Show.
One crustacean cream, please.
Featuring cooked, buttered-up chunks of real Maine lobster folded into butter-flavored ice cream, the Pink Spot claims this may be the first time the creamy crustacean frozen treat has made it to the Arizona desert.
Ick? Ew? C'mon, you know you're a little curious. So was I. So I had me some.
Like a ride at the fair you decide to go on because everyone is talking about it, and even though you know it won't be as fun as it appears to be, you're willing to take a chance. Hey, when will this opportunity ever come up again and, seriously, how bad can it be?
After several bites of butter-flavored ice cream (which is good), you start to wonder, "Hey, where's the lobster?" It's not in every bite. In fact, it's not in every few bites. This is a good thing. When you do hit a frozen chunk, there's the "Oh, hey, this tastes like lobster," followed by, "Hm, I'm not sure how I feel about eating lobster ice cream. Is this gross? Wait, I'm back to the butter-flavored ice cream again."
Lobster ice cream: a novelty, to be sure, but, like that ride at the fair, definitely worth trying if you need to check a box -- or a bucket list -- or you're just super-curious.
