Did you know The Living Room on 2333 North 7th Street is transforming into a Humble Pie? I found out when I attempted to pop in for lunch today, thanks to a sign on the door.

A source told me the decision to change The Living Room Wine Cafe and Lounge in Phoenix (not yet open a year), to a Humble Pie, the gourmet pizzeria with locations in Scottsdale and the Desert Ridge area, came via a co-owner of both restaurants, Tom Kaufman, who says he had a good reason for making the switch.

The reason? Pizza.

It seems The Living Room diners kept asking for pizza so Kaufman decided to give it to them by transforming The Living Room into a Humble Pie. I'm told the new Humble Pie location will be serving up its gourmet pizzas in addition to keeping many of The Living Room's menu items (like their crazy-good fries). The Living Room location in Chandler will remain the same.

The new Humble Pie location on 7th Street in Phoenix, formally The Living Room, is set to open in the next couple of weeks.

I've never been in a restaurant and asked the staff for something unrelated to the menu.  That's ridiculous. My suspicion is that the folks at The Living Room looked out their doors and saw all the happy faces in the patio of The Main Ingredient, and got a little jealous.  They realized that you can't just bite the styles of good local restaurants and hope people don't notice.  Unfortunately, after reading the Humble Pie menu on their website, it looks like that's this owner's MO.  I'll just go to Cibo, Pizzeria Bianco, Pino's, Postino, or a number of good restaurants they are trying to emulate when I want that style of food.

This has become my favorite restaurant...I'm so bummed!  I love it...it's the perfect place to get together for lunch...so comfortable, the wait staff is friendly, I love the bruschetta.  This is a real disappointment.

This is so funny!!!! Smearing lipstick on a turd! That place was a fucking morgue night and day, everyday, for 8 months. That is why they're changing it. I have to ask: Why would New Times allow this piece of shit Kaufman to put a positive spin on this?! He is an absentee, greedy owner, who couldn't care less about this neighborhood or "his customers". (this is coming from someone who worked for him) Humble Pie will fail, too, as it will take a heavyweight-championship-style ass-whipping from The Main Ingredient, every day just like the other lame, soul-less "concept".

Reason is they can't keep up with The Main Ingredient and Humble Pie will distance their concept a bit.

Geeze, what happens when everybody asks for Fried Chicken with 11 herbs and spices?
