The Chew: Do We Really Need Another Food Show?

What happens when not one but two soap operas are canceled on the same day? The Earth shakes on its very foundation and giant worms from its core rise to the surface, making slaves of all mankind forever. They are replaced by equally ridiculous (but cheaper to produce) programming. Whee -- TV is EASY -- and FUN!!!

Yesterday, ABC announced it will cancel All My Children and One Life to Live after being on the air a combined 83 YEARS (19 years older than Susan Lucci) to launch two new younger-skewing, lifestyle-oriented series (translation: shows for aunts, not grandmas.) One, a makeover-centric show called The Revolution and a food-themed show. 'Cause we need another one of those, right?

Wanna know what it is? Try to contain yourselves, yo.

(Sigh.) The Chew.

The hour-long food series will be hosted by Mario Batali (Iron Chef America), Clinton Kelly (What Not to Wear), Carla Hall (Top Chef -- HI CARLA!), Michael Symon (Iron Chef America) and nutrition expert Daphne Oz. At least Carla's gettin' paid.

Hoping to capitalize on the success of The View (ugh), ABC Daytime president Brian Frons said, "The Chew and The Revolution are in the same vein, and will be great additions to the lineup, with The View serving as an ideal foundation from which to launch these programs."

R.I.P., Erica Kane. At least ABC hasn't replaced General Hospital with General Foods Hospitality Cooking & All-Star Hour Extravaganza Freak-Out-A-Thon -- yet.

What say you, daytime drama divas? Will you watch The Chew now that AMC and OLTL are history?

NO WAY WILL I NOR THE MILLIONS OF SOAP FANS BE WATCHING THE CHEW OR THE REVOLUTION!!! WE ARE TRYING TO GET SPONSORS TO NOT ADVERTISE DURING YOUR TIME SLOT AND HOOVER IS ALREADY WITH US AND MANY OTHERS ARE THINKING ABOUT IT.. THIS WILL FAIL YOU SHOULD SAVE YOUR OWN REPUTATIONS AND NOT DO THESE SHOWS YOU WILL BE HATED BY SO MANY.

for those of us who don't have cable, I'm excited about a cooking show on "regular" TV. I feel so uncool when everyone else sits around talking about Cake Boss and Guy Fieri. Plus, I love both Mario and Clinton, so I'll be TiVoing it!

i just want to say that i will not be watching the new shows once all my children and one life to live is cancelled. i love watching one life to live and we don't need another cooking show. what is the cooking show gonna prove anyway. there are way to many over weight americans and the cooking show isn't going to do anything. i think it's just a waste of time and it will be boring.

I have watched these shows from all over the U.S. We moved a lot, but my friends on these shows just went with me. I will miss them greatly. You can also depend on my not watchingGeneral Hospital. If you were going to cancel any show, it should have been that one.

ANOTHER COOKING SHOW. ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MINDS!!!!

The writer obviously has never watched One Live to Live and six time Emmy winner Erika Slezak who heads the cast or she would know that OLTL is not ridiculous. That's offensive to cast, writers, crew, and viewers. The quality of daytime productions and performances are unrecognized and unappreciated by those who have never viewed them regularly. Personally, I prefer OLTL to primetime television; the storylines and acting are much more compelling.

ABC doesn't give a damn about soap viewers because they tend to be older and lower income, which advertisers don't want. ABC thinks it can make more money and attract advertisers by creating shows designed to appeal to younger and upwardly mobile viewers. In other words, soap viewers are worthless garbage to be trashed, according to ABC research, based out of California and Disney. The new shows will likely have fewer viewers but make more money because they will be cheaper to produce. The last thing network television needs is another cooking or reality show. Obviously ABC/Disney will broadcast any pig slop if it increases their advertising revenues.

I am SICK of reality TV & shows that want to "teach" me to be a better person. I can figure that out for myself! I want to be entertained & have a little escapism. Networks have zero imagination any more. It is all going to be exactly the same crap before it's over with. Scripted reality shows and/or someone lecturing you on how to do this & how to do that. ABC can go stuff it as far as I'm concerned. I won't watch either of these two yawn fests that they are proposing.

I have watched All My Children since it began. I will NOT be watching ABC, ANYTIME, after AMC is gone. Good bye cast of AMC, and goodbye ABC. You've done this to me over and over with shows that I like, and I can not, and will not take it any more.
