$10 Lunch at Los Taquitos

But you would know it, because of the food.
We ordered a chicken burrito and carne asada tacos, but we secretly wanted to order about 15 more things off the huge menu. Nothing is over $8, and most items are in the $5 range.
There are a few things we look for in Mexican food. First, the salsa has to have kick. The red and green sauce at Los Taquitos certainly has that.
Next, when it comes to tacos, they have to be simple, not too much dressing and a good amount of meat. The corn tortillas for the carne asada tacos were a little bit greasy, but the meat was delicious as was the straightforward topping of onions and cilantro.
Finally, the beans should be creamy, but also retain some semblance of bean. Beans that are too processed tend to be rubbery.

The chicken burrito has beans, chicken, onions and cilantro inside a big flour tortilla, which is then finished on the grill top. The beans were perfect and the chicken was full of a smoky, sweet flavor. It's one of the best chicken burritos we've had.
The downfalls of Los Taquitos are that the place is very small, so you have to navigate among lots of other people, which is another negative - it's always packed!
The biggest downfall is probably that you have to wait a long time for the food. In some ways, that's a good thing because that means the food is fresh, but when your mouth is watering and you just want to sink your teeth into a tasty burrito, the wait can be overwhelming.
Los Taquitos is located at 4747 E. Elliot Rd. in Ahwatukee.
