Sola Coffee Bar's agave latte

Sola is a hip little coffee bar in the heart of Old Town Scottsdale, and it offers a nice reprieve from daytime window shopping. Outside, retirees ogle eagle and horse sculptures while BMWs jockey for parking spaces with Mustangs. But inside Sola, people inhale the scent of fresh-brewed java and tap away at their laptops while surrounded by original art hanging on bright orange walls.

There's a sizable menu at Sola, but for our first visit, we decided to try their agave latte. The barista said it was the best latte ever, and while we wouldn't go that far, it was definitely one of the better lattes we've ever had.

Sola gets their coffee beans from Cartel Coffee Lab, so right away, we expected something yummy. The agave latte didn't disappoint. Though it's beige in color, it tastes like a potent espresso. The deep roast flavor of the coffee was offset by the sweet agave syrup, and blended together, they made the drink taste like caramel corn.

Usually, we don't like overly-sweet stuff, but Sola's agave latte gave us a nice balance of chocolate coffee flavor with caramel. It also gave us a significant energy boost, even though we spent two hours sipping it. It's one of those coffees that taste so good you just have to nurse it. Or order a second.
